Explore how God tests us in conflicts, demonstrates His love and grace during these times, and guides us in resolving these conflicts.
Good morning, church family. Today, we're going to delve into a powerful passage from Exodus, chapter 17, verses 1 through 7.
Max Lucado once said, "Conflict is inevitable, combat is optional." This truth rings loudly in our Scripture reading today.
Let me read for you Exodus 17:1-7 (NIV):

Let's pray together before we dive into the word today.
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you with open hearts, ready to receive your Word. Guide our understanding as we navigate the challenges and conflicts in our lives, reminding us of your love, grace, and the power of resolving conflicts with your help. Amen.
Let’s dive in!
As we delve into the first theme of our sermon today, it's essential to understand that God tests us in conflict. This concept is not foreign to us as believers; we've all faced trials and tribulations that have tested our faith and resolve. But why does God test us, especially in conflict? The answer lies in the very nature of God and His purpose for our lives.
God is a loving Father: He desires the best for His children. Just as earthly parents guide their children through challenges to help them grow, God allows us to face conflicts to strengthen our faith and character. The Israelites' journey in the wilderness was not smooth sailing. They faced numerous challenges, including thirst, hunger, and fear. Yet, in each conflict, God was testing their faith, trust, and obedience.
The Israelites found themselves in a dire situation: They were in the Desert of Sin, a barren and desolate place with no water to drink. The people were thirsty, and in their desperation, they began to quarrel with Moses. This conflict was a test from God. He wanted to see if the Israelites would trust Him to provide for their needs, even in the most challenging circumstances.
Not meant to break us but to build us: They are designed to reveal our character and faith. When we face conflicts, our true nature is revealed. Do we trust God, or do we rely on our own strength? Do we remain faithful, or do we grumble and complain? These tests are not pleasant, but they are necessary for our spiritual growth.
Opportunities for us to experience His miraculous power: In the midst of the conflict, God instructed Moses to strike the rock, and water gushed out. This miracle was not only a physical provision but also a spiritual lesson for the Israelites. God was teaching them that even in the most challenging conflicts, He could provide in miraculous ways.
Not arbitrary: They are always in line with His character and His promises. God had promised to lead the Israelites to a land flowing with milk and honey. He had not promised a journey without conflict, but He had promised to be with them in every conflict. Therefore, even in the midst of the test, the Israelites could have confidence in God's faithfulness to His promises.
Why does He test?: As we navigate through our own conflicts, we must remember that God is testing us, not to harm us, but to help us grow. He wants to strengthen our faith, build our character, and reveal His power in our lives. The conflicts we face are opportunities for us to experience God's faithfulness and provision in new and profound ways.
