The vow of the Nazarite. This was a voluntary vow. Any man or woman of Israel who wanted to become a Nazarite could do so.

He could take the vow for a certain period of time or for a lifetime. God did not command it; it was purely voluntary. But if any of His people wanted a closer walk with Him, this is what they could do.

****What kind of vows to God have you made?...serve rest of your life.

Do we have a passion to please God?...How are we doing?

Les Paul. Paul was known as the "Architect of Rock and Roll" and for inventing the solid body electric guitar.

In 1948, Paul’s passion for the guitar almost came to a tragic end. While driving on a bridge in Oklahoma, his car skidded off into a river and his right arm was shattered.

Doctors told Paul they could save his arm, but he would never play the guitar again.

Paul gave the surgeons a suggestion. To set his arm at a slightly less than 90 degree angle so he could still cradle his guitar? That’s what they did.

So, for the rest of his life, Les Paul could not throw, reach or raise his right arm. It didn’t matter to him; he could play the guitar. Maybe we should ask the Lord to remold us and set us so that all we can do is fulfill our passion to serve Him.

Numbers 6:1-8 (KJV)

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:

3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.

5 All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.

6 All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.

7 He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.

8 All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD.

The Lord spake unto Moses ....in the OT people could not please God if they didnt do His commandants ....God passed these commandants to Moses and Moses on to the people...but, now we have Christ....when we receive Him and the Holy Spirit lives in us...we are to listen to Him....but, even in our disobedience....we are forgiven by grace.

The vow here his has nothing to do with the question of whether it is right or wrong to drink wine.

The Christian standard is not a standard of right or wrong.

The question is this: What is your purpose in doing what you are doing?

Are you doing it to please Christ? Do you want to be a Nazarite? Do you want to live for Him? That is the question.

People will ask whether it is right for a Christian to drink wine.

My friend, I won’t really argue that point.

I won’t argue right or wrong.

I want to know whether you really want to please Christ.

There is some joy in wine....I guess for some

The whole point here is that the Nazarite was to find his joy in the Lord.

Nazarite Vow means..the separated one.... kon-si-krey-shuh n

Second, when a person took the Nazarite vow..shave his head....that was a sign that his vow had begun.

Then as it grew...it was a sign of commitment

They were not to touch the dead...this world is pledged with death..

The Nazarite vow is not a command but, voluntary

Numbers 6:9-12 (KJV)

9 And if any man die very suddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his consecration; then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it.

10 And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

11 And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day.
