Take Care Of Moma

Summary: Jesus teaches us to look out for Moma even from the cross while he is dying.
Today, as we gather to honor and celebrate Mother’s Day, we pause to reflect not just on the flowers, cards, and tributes—but on the divine calling and sacred sacrifice that comes with being a mother.
And what better place to anchor our thoughts than at the foot of the Cross, where we find Mary, the mother of Jesus, standing in perhaps her greatest moment of heartbreak—but also her greatest moment of faith.
When we look at this scenario here is Mary: The Mother Who Stood, the Bible says “Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother…”
Mary the mother stood there, she didn’t do like some of the men or (the disciples) who left Jesus hanging Literally. She didn’t run. She didn’t faint. She didn’t abandon Him, but she stood.
Mary is mentioned as standing there. But there is no record of her speaking during the crucifixion.
Can you imagine the agony in this mother’s heart? The same arms that once held Jesus as a baby is now hanging nailed to a cross. The same lips that once called her “Mama” are now dry and cracked from suffering.
Yet she stood.
• She stood in strength, because I’m sure it pained her to see her baby boy.
• She stood in sorrow, because she had to watch her baby boy hanging between two thieves.
• She stood in silence, likely because she was in disbelief, saying to herself that’s my son hanging on the cross.
This is a picture of every mother who endures, who watches their children struggle, who prays through the pain, who remains present even when they can’t fix the situation.
Mothers on behalf of all of the children I want to tell you that, your presence is powerful. And sometimes you don’t have to say anything—just being there matters to us.
Jesus: The Son Who Honored His Mother
In His final moments, in his time of suffering, with his lungs burning and blood flowing, Jesus does something remarkable: He thinks of His mother.
“Woman, behold thy son… Behold thy mother.”
This is a son honoring His mother in the face of death.
• Jesus didn’t let the weight of the world cause negligent.
• He didn’t let His divine assignment override His human responsibility.
• He made sure Mary would be cared for.
Here it is:
Children, no matter how old we get, or how busy life becomes, we are never released from the responsibility of honoring our mothers.
Even if she wasn’t perfect.
Even if things were complicated.
God calls us to show love, give respect, and provide care. Some children get to busy for their mother, but we must honor them regardless of how we think they may be, why Pastor? Because the Bible says honor them.
So, Jesus gave out the assignment when he seen John the disciple that he loved he said woman behold thy son, and then he said to John. Behold thy mother
John: The Disciple Who Embraced the Assignment
I know this because the Bible said “And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”
Jesus trusted John with something precious—His mother.
• Mothers are gifts from God.
• They are not to be taken for granted.
• They are to be received, embraced, and cherished.
John didn’t delay. He didn’t debate. He just obeyed.
Just as John received Mary, the Church must be a place that receives and honors women and mothers—not just biologically, but spiritually.
There are women among us who have mothered us in the faith. Some of them never had children, but they nurtured and prayed for many.
So The Cross was the Place of Separation and Connection
At the cross, Mary lost her Son, but gained a new family.
This is what Jesus does—He rearranges relationships.
• He connects the lonely with the loved.
• He restores what seems broken.
• He builds new bonds that extend beyond biology.
Encouragement for Mothers:
Maybe your child is wayward.
Maybe you’ve lost a child.
Maybe you’ve never had one.
But God sees you, and He has a place and a people for you.
In Christ, you are never alone.
Here is Mother’s Reward”
Mary was there at the manger, and at the cross.
She saw the cradle and the crucifixion.
And eventually—she witnessed the resurrection.
To every mother who has stood faithfully, prayed relentlessly, and loved sacrificially—your reward is coming.
You may cry now, but joy is ahead.
You may feel unnoticed now, but God sees you.
Just like Mary, you will see the full story unfold.
1. To children and families: Call your mother, honor her, care for her like Jesus did.
2. To mothers: Keep standing, keep believing. Your love is not in vain.
3. To the church: Let us embrace the spiritual mothers among us, and honor them well.
And we ought to thank God for the gift of mothers.
