Preach Christmas week
Regardless of the severity of your personal storm, survival is possible by remaining steadfast in the ship of Jesus Christ.
In these challenging times, it is evident that we are facing a storm in our country. Many people are losing their jobs, homes, and struggling to make ends meet. The stress and despair can be overwhelming, leading some to make drastic decisions. However, amidst this storm, there is hope in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us turn to the Scriptures for guidance and encouragement.
- Psalm 31:24: "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord."
- Psalm 71:5: "For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth."
- Psalm 146:5: "Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God."
- Jeremiah 17:7: "But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him."
In Acts 27, we read about Paul's journey as a prisoner on a ship bound for Rome. Despite Paul's warning to wait for better weather, the centurion and captain decided to sail into a dangerous storm. They disregarded Paul's advice, thinking he knew nothing about sailing. However, Paul had previous experience and knew the perils of sailing.
Paul, being a calming influence, encouraged his shipmates during the storm. He assured them that although the ship would be destroyed, their lives would be spared. He reminded them to take heart and not fear because an angel had appeared to him, assuring him of their safety. Paul's faith in God's promise gave him confidence that they would survive.
1. Be cautious of rejecting wise counsel: The centurion and captain ignored Paul's advice because they underestimated his knowledge. We should not hastily dismiss advice from others, as God can use anyone to provide wisdom and guidance.
2. Material possessions are temporary: While the ship was lost, the lives of those on board were preserved. Let us not place excessive value on material things, for they can be replaced, but our souls are irreplaceable.
To survive the storm, we must stay in the ship. Here are four ships we need to remain in:
1. The Ship of Prayer:
Jesus encourages us to pray continually (Luke 18:1). We should bring our requests to God with thanksgiving, knowing that He hears us (Philippians 4:6). Prayer is our lifeline to God, providing comfort, strength, and guidance.
2. The Ship of God's Word:
We must immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, hiding God's Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11). His Word is a lamp to guide our steps (Psalm 119:105) and provides wisdom for navigating life's storms.
3. The Ship of the Church:
Attending church and fellowshipping with other believers is vital for our spiritual growth and support. We should not neglect gathering together but encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25).
4. The Ship of Jesus Christ:
Above all, we must stay in the ship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He offers peace, healing, joy, blessings, deliverance, love, eternal life, and salvation. In Him, we find strength to endure and overcome any storm.
Though the ship in Paul's story was destroyed, all those on board survived by staying in the ship. Similarly, when we stay in the ship of Jesus Christ, we can weather any storm that comes our way. Remember that storms are temporary; they do not last forever. As we trust in God's promises and remain in His ship, we can find peace, hope, and the strength to endure. Let us hold on to our faith and trust that God will guide us through the storms of life.
