Summary: Learning how and when to accept and use your calling.
Tonght let’s concentrate on ---
Surrendering to our purpose---Releasing our calling
It’s God’s purpose for your life---You can kick and scream---God’s purpose
So lets look at couple of different leadership lessons from the BIBLE—
First lets look at what we must do to be effective in our calling---
JOHN 3:29-31
We must decrease---Christ must increase---
Agendas sometimes trump the power of JESUS—
People so hell bent on getting their way---that Christ GETS in the WAY
Programs sometimes trump the power of Jesus
Churches get locked into doing it the same way over and over
Churches should ask:
Why do we give here---we always have
Why do we do this----we always have
Why do we believe like this----we always have
PROGRAM---is something we’re programmed to do---Programmed to believe
JUST THE WORD MAKES ME SICK
Baptist and Methodist disagree on baptism---Neither believes it will save you
In most church....Pastor becomes the focal point---
That’s fine---When pastors start enjoying that---BIG PROBLEM
Certain staff people---or a name---or an association---trumps the power of Jesus
There were 2 main leaders in JESUS’ day---
The Gentiles---Matt 20:25
The rules like owners of Slaves—using fear and authority
How did Jesus say one should lead---Matt 20:26-28
The Pharisees- Matt. 23:27-28
They held people to a different standard---
The most religious people---always are hiding something
The more they brow beat someone---the better they look
How did Jesus say they should lead---Matt 23:11-12
So We see how we should release our call----
WHEN DO WE RELEASE IT?
LUKE 13:10-17---Jesus shows----
USE YOUR CALLING WHEN IT”S NEEDED
Being a leader doesn’t mean you always have to lead—
Having a calling doesn’t mean you’re always operating in that calling
MANY PEOPLE WANT ME TO OPERATE AS THE PASTOR ALWAYS—
Sometimes I’m operating as a dad, husband, friend, guy
People that are always “in character” drive me crazy-
A great leader doesn’t always lead---
A great leader leads when a leader is needed
Many Christians are serving out of a slave mentality---They’re quick to quote the rule—or the law
GALATIANS 4:21-29 – people serving out of a slave mentality
Kids in slavery....HATE THE FREE KIDS
Lets look at 2 more verses on being effective leaders & how to release our calling
Phillipians 1:27
What are the 3 keys we should follow from this verse:
1. Have conduct worthy of the GOSPEL
I believe the church has been cripple by “thou shall not’s”---
But we always have to check ourselves---HAVE CONDUCT WORTHY
2. Be of one Spirit-So many “churches that are divided against it’s self
We should all be working toward the same goal---enlarging the KINGDOM
Congregations hoping theirs is the biggest---fastest growing
If we all have a KINGDOM view---yours is the biggest ---ONE SPIRIT
3. One mind--- Phillipians 2:5-11
We should remember that we should be HUMBLE to those in need
But confident of Who we are in CHRIST---
THE ONE MIND---I’m just on of MILLIons of Christins
But don’t be fooled, I am righteous and truly holy
LAST VERSE---1 Corinthians 3:9
1. Fellow workers
2. God’s field
3. God’s building
We must Surrender to God----Release our calling---RECAP ROMANS 8:28
