Scripture: Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Introduction
• I’m sensing in my spirit that we are in a “Supernatural Reset - Globally.” (The Nations, God’s Church, and God’s individual people)
• Discuss: Understanding the Need for a Supernatural Reset
• Key Thought: Occasionally it becomes necessary for God to offer something new.
I. Historical Context of Isaiah 43
A. Overview of the Chapter
1. Isaiah 43 is written to the people of Israel during their time of exile in Babylon. They had turned away from God, and their unfaithfulness led to their captivity.
2. Despite their failure, God promises redemption, restoration, and hope. He assures them that He has not abandoned them and that He will make a way for their return.
B. Political and Social Background
1. Exile in Babylon was a period of despair, marked by hopelessness. The Israelites were far from their homeland, grieving over their lost temple and identity.
2. This chapter serves as a reminder of God’s covenant faithfulness, even when His people struggle to remain faithful.
II. Forgetting the Past
A. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”
1. God is calling His people to release their focus on past failures, sorrows, and even victories that could hold them back.
2. Dwelling on the past often prevents people from seeing the new opportunities God is creating.
3. This command is not about denying or ignoring the past but choosing not to be defined or limited by it.
B. Key Thought: “A reset doesn’t just change our circumstances; it transforms our identity and purpose.”
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
• Application: Examine your life and identify areas where you are clinging to regret, resentment, or nostalgia. Surrender these to God through prayer.
• Encouragement: Trust that God is writing a new story in your life that cannot be dictated by past experiences.
III. God is Doing a New Work!
A. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
1. God declares that He is actively working in the present, creating something entirely new and unexpected.
2. The phrase “do you not perceive it?” challenges His people to open their spiritual eyes and recognize His hand at work.
3. God’s new thing is a creative, life-giving work that defies human limitations and expectations.
B. A Fresh Start After Failure
1. Whether it’s sin, disappointment, or discouragement, God’s grace offers a new beginning.
2. Reflect on Lamentations 3:22-23 – “His mercies are new every morning.”
IV. Trusting God to Make a Way
A. “I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
1. The wilderness and wasteland symbolize barren places, trials, and obstacles that seem insurmountable.
2. God promises to create pathways where none exist and bring life-giving nourishment to dry, desolate places.
3. This imagery reflects God’s power to transform the impossible into the possible, both in physical deliverance and spiritual renewal.
B. Key Thought: “God’s supernatural reset doesn’t just start something new—it restores what was damaged, lost, or stolen.”
Scripture: Joel 2:25-26 – “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten… You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you.”
1. When facing challenges, remember that God specializes in making ways where there seem to be none—whether in relationships, career struggles, or spiritual droughts.
2. Reaffirm your trust in God’s ability to provide solutions and guidance beyond human understanding.
V. YBH (Yes, But How Do I Participate in a Supernatural Reset?)
A. Forget the Old Patterns
1. Learn to release old habits, failures, and even successes that keep you from moving forward in your walk with Christ.
2. Examine how your past may be limiting your ability to fully experience God’s plans.
B. Look for God’s Work in Unexpected Places
1. God often works in ways we do not anticipate. Stay alert and prayerfully watchful for His hand in both the big and small moments of your life.
2. For example, He may open a door through difficulty, bring relationships into your life for growth, or even guide you into unfamiliar territory.
• Philippians 1:6 reinforces this theme – “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
C. Be Encouraged by God’s Power
1. The wilderness and wasteland are not the end of the story—God promises streams of life and renewal in these very places.
