Summary: In the same way that Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit, God wants His SUPER to come on our NATURAL so we can be anointed to transform people’s lives today.

SUPER: NATURALLY! #2: ANOINTED ME: EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

ILLUSTRATION: We need to be plugged into the power of God!

A man went into a hardware store and asked for a saw. The salesman took one from the shelf and said it was their "newest model, with the latest in technology, guaranteed to cut ten cords of firewood a day." The customer bought it on the spot. The next day he returned, looking exhausted. "Something must be wrong with this saw. I worked as hard as I could and only cut three cords of wood. I used to do four with my old saw." The salesman said, "Here, let me try it out back." They went to a woodpile, the salesman pulled the cord, and as the motor went Vvroomm, the customer jumped back and exclaimed, "What's that noise?"

JESUS WAS ANOINTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT:

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:1-3, NKJV).

• Jesus quoted this Scripture in His first sermon and said HE was anointed!

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38).

“It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7).

• That helper is the Holy Spirit. Jesus wants all of us to be filled with the Spirit!

• He is a Person – the third member of the Trinity - Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19)

- He is not a 'bird' (dove); He is not a force/power; He is not a 'ghost' (as in the KJV)

THE BIG IDEA: In the same way that Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit, God wants His SUPER to come on our NATURAL so we can be anointed to transform people’s lives today.

THREE THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT:

“And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17).

1. The Holy Spirit WITH US - convicts us of sin, draws us to Jesus & salvation

2. The Holy Spirit WITHIN US - when we are saved/born again - new creation

“But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me.” (Acts 1:8).

3. The Holy Spirit UPON US - empowers us for ministry (baptism of the Holy Spirit)

- God’s SUPER coming on our NATURAL!

ILLUSTRATION: Jug of water with a cup, pour into the cup, fill the cup to overflowing.

1. JESUS ANOINTED THE TWELVE:

“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” (Luke 9:1-2).

“And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:7-8).

2. JESUS ANOINTED THE SEVENTY:

“After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest… And heal the sick there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.” (Luke 10:1-2,9).

3. JESUS WANTS TO ANOINT ALL OF HIS DISCIPLES:

“And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:15-18).
