Remind the congregation of God's perfect timing, unending mercy, and unwavering faithfulness, encouraging them to find hope in Him and live out His truths in their daily lives.
Good morning, beloved congregation. I am deeply moved to share with you today a message of hope, mercy, and faithfulness.
As I was contemplating and praying about today’s sermon, a quote from A.W. Tozer kept resonating within me, "God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which He must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits and relax our nerves." This is a beautiful reminder that God's timing is perfect, His mercy is unending and His faithfulness is unwavering.
Let us turn to the book of Lamentations, chapter 3, verses 21 through 25. The Scripture reads,
"Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.' The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him."
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your unending love and faithfulness. As we delve into your Word today, we ask that you open our hearts and minds to understand the depths of your mercy and to find hope in you. Grant us the wisdom to discern your truths and the courage to live them out in our daily lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Let’s dive in.
The faithfulness of God is a divine attribute that is not only integral to His character but also profoundly impacts our lives.
Not dependent on our faithfulness: Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13). This means that God's faithfulness is not contingent on our actions or our worthiness. It is a steadfast, unchanging attribute of God, and it is a source of great comfort and assurance for us as believers.
Seen in His promises: Throughout the Bible, we see God making promises and keeping them. From the promise to Abraham that he would be the father of many nations, to the promise of the coming Messiah, God has proven His faithfulness time and time again. He is a promise-keeper, and we can trust that what He has said, He will do.
The book of Lamentations: The prophet Jeremiah is in the midst of great suffering and despair. Yet, in the midst of his pain, he clings to the faithfulness of God. He declares, "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Jeremiah knew that even in the midst of his suffering, God was faithful. His love and compassion never fail, and they are new every morning.
Seen in His provision: Whether it is providing manna in the wilderness for the Israelites, or providing for our daily needs, God is faithful to provide for His children. We may not always understand His ways, and there may be times when His provision doesn't look like we expect it to, but we can trust that He is always working for our good and His glory.
Extends to His forgiveness: 1 John 1:9 tells us, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." This is a powerful reminder that no matter how many times we fail, God is always ready and willing to forgive us. His faithfulness is not limited by our failures.
A deep well of comfort, assurance, and hope for us as believers: It is a truth that we can cling to in times of doubt and despair, and it is a truth that can bring us great joy and peace.
