Some of the Order of events prior to our text:

Jesus partook of His last Passover with His beloved disciples.

Judas went out to do what Judas went out to do.

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Jesus was betrayed by a kiss and arrested.

Jesus stands before Ananias and Caiaphas.

Jesus stands trial before Pilate.

Jesus is sent to Herod.

Jesus is returned to Pilate.

Jesus is beaten and abused in Pilates Hall.

Jesus is sentenced to death.

Jesus is led away to Calvary.

Jesus is crucified!

Jesus said in Matthew 12:39-40 “39- … there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40- For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

Jesus said in Matthew 26:32 “But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.”

Matthew 28:6 “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”

Some of the order of events after our text:

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Acts 2:1-4 “1- And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2- And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3- And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4- And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Some people are stuck between Calvary and Pentecost.

The men who walked with Jesus said their chest did burn within them while He was with them.

Jesus said, “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.”

He was drawing them to more, or so much more.

Jesus said in John 16:7 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”

Jesus said in John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”

Jesus said in John 14:26: “…the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost…”

The prophet of old said in Isaiah 28:11 “…with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.”

Paul said in I Corinthians 14:21 “In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people…”

Today is Pentecost (Shavuot) Sunday. "Pentecost" means 50; the 50th day after Passover.

The Israelites were to count the Omer for 49 days, from the day after Passover till Pentecost.

Passover represents Calvary: I Corinthians 5:7 “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.”

Pentecost represents the birth of the Church!

On the Feast of Firstfruits, Feast of Weeks, Shavuot, or Pentecost, two loaves of leavened bread are presented to the LORD by the high priest for the people of Israel. They represented the Bread of Life (Christ) that a “man may eat of and not die” and the redeemed Bride of Christ (The Church).

The Church:

Acts 17:30 “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:”

Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

I Corinthians 14:5 “I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.”

Paul preaching on the Day of Pentecost:

Acts 2:37-39 “37- Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38- Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39- For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

Don’t get stuck between Calvary and Pentecost:

Repent, be Baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit!
