Therefore say to them [the Jews of this day], Thus says the Lord of hosts: Return to Me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you; it is the utterance of the Lord of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6 (Amplified Bible)

Then he said to me, This [addition of the bowl to the candlestick, causing it to yield a ceaseless supply of oil from the olive trees] is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of Whom the oil is a symbol], says the Lord of hosts.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Stripes on his back

"And one shall say to him, What are these wounds on your breast or between your hands?"

Psalms 22:16 (Amplified Bible)

For [like a pack of] dogs they have encompassed me; a company of evildoers has encircled me, they pierced my hands and my feet.

Isaiah 53:7 (Amplified Bible)

He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted, He was submissive and opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.

John 19:37 (Amplified Bible)

And again another Scripture says, They shall look on Him Whom they have pierced.

Zechariah 12:10 (Amplified Bible)

And I will pour out upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace or unmerited favor and supplication. And they shall look [earnestly] upon Me Whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him as one who is in bitterness for his firstborn.

It also refers to the wounds on the Messiah's hands brought about by the nails that were pierced thru it.

John 20:25 (Amplified Bible)

So the other disciples kept telling him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the marks made by the nails and put my finger into the nail prints, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe [it].

B. It was created by those who loved him

"Then he will answer, Those with which I was wounded [when disciplined] in the house of my [loving] friends."

John 18:35 (Amplified Bible)

Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your [own] people and nation and their chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?

John 19:14-16 (Amplified Bible)

Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover, and it was about the sixth hour (about twelve o’clock noon). He said to the Jews, See, [here is] your King!

But they shouted, Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him! Pilate said to them, Crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar!

Then he delivered Him over to them to be crucified.

He came to His own, yet His own rejected Him and delivered Him to the Romans to be crucified like a criminal.

John 1:11 (Amplified Bible)

He came to that which belonged to Him [to His own—His domain, creation, things, world], and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Isaiah 53:5 (Amplified Bible)

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

Romans 5:8 (Amplified Bible)

But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.
