A. What Are These Stripes In Your Back?
1. Jews can only be scourged 39 times - 2 Corinthians 11:24
2 Corinthians 11:24
Five times I was given the thirty-nine lashes by the Jews;
2. The Lord JESUS CHRIST took our punishment in His own body. (Isaiah 52:14, Isaiah 53:6)
Isaiah 52:14
Many people were shocked when they saw him; he was so disfigured that he hardly looked human.
Isaiah 53:6
All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way. But the LORD made the punishment fall on him, the punishment all of us deserved.
3. We have been healed thru these stripes. (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 1:24)
Isaiah 53:5
But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.
1 Peter 1:24
As the scripture says, "All human beings are like grass, and all their glory is like wild flowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall,
B. CHRIST will answer the stripes are from the people that loved HIM.
1. JESUS CHRIST is the Lamb that was slain (Revelations 5:6)
Revelations 5:6
Then I saw a Lamb standing in the center of the throne, surrounded by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb appeared to have been killed. It had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God that have been sent through the whole earth.
2. Think about the love, He has given to us, the stripes are meant to hurt Him yet because of His Unfailing Love, He saw it as given by those who loved Him. (Proverbs 27:6)
Proverbs 27:6
Friends mean well, even when they hurt you. But when an enemy puts his arm around your shoulder---watch out!
IX. CONCLUSION:
Let our love be that of the Lord JESUS CHRIST who loves us with an eternal love. Every time someone hurts us, remember that they have hurt our LORD JESUS first and yet because of the Love, He considers them as stripes given by those who loved Him.
