Summary: Storms Prevailing
Acts 27 v 13 - 26 Storms Prevailing
The Subtlety of the Storm - It Came -
At a period unexpected - 13 And when the south wind blew softly,
At a pace unexpected - supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence,
At a place unexpected - they sailed close by Crete. (Near Land)
The Stringency of the Storm
It's Speed - 14 But not long after
It's Spite - there arose against it
It's Spike - a tempestuous wind,
It's Spell - called Euroclydon.
The Severity of the Storm
The Dangerous - 15 And when the ship was caught,
The Defenceless - and could not bear up into the wind,
The Dependence - we let her drive.
The Savagery of the Storm
The Place - 16 and running under a certain island which is called Clauda, The Problem - we had much work to come by the boat:
(to make the lifeboat secure)
The Practice - 17 Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship;
The Panic - and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.
The Plight -
Their danger - 18 And we being exceedingly tossed
Their difficulty - with a tempest,
Their delay - the next day
Their decision - they lightened the ship; (threw cargo overboard)
The Sobriety of the Storm
The Time - 19 And the third day
The Task - we cast out with our own hands
The Test - the tackling of the ship. (threw ship's tackie overboard)
The Supremacy of the Storm
The Darkness - 20 when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared,
The Distress - and no small tempest lay on us,
The Despair - all hope that we should be saved
The Dismay - was then taken away.
The Serenity in the Storm
The Lack - 21 But after long abstinence (from food)
The Light - Paul stood forth in the midst of them,
The Lesson -
The Majesty of God - The Reproof - and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
The Management of God - The Reproach - 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.
The Mystery of God - The Repose - 23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
His Presence - there stood by me this night the angel of God,
His Prominence - whose I am, and whom I serve Paul belonged to God
His Purpose - 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar:
His Power - 24 and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee
His Purity - 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God,
that it shall be even as it was told me.
The Mastery of God - The Report - 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
The Ministry of God - The Repute - 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer:
for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
The Mercy of God - The Reprieve -
26 Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
