This sermon emphasizes finding hope and cheerfulness in desperate times through faith and understanding of God's powerful and gracious words in the Bible.
Welcome, brothers and sisters. It's good to be with you today. We're going to read from Mark 13:24-37. From 1 Corinthians 1:3-9. From Psalms 80:1-19. And from Isaiah 64:1-9. These are words of power. Words of grace. Words that speak of dire times, but also of hopeful hearts. Words that talk about heaven's tear and earth's restoration.
These words remind me of something G.K. Chesterton once said. He said, "Hope is the power of being cheerful in circumstances that we know to be desperate." Isn't that a wonderful thought? Even in desperate times, we can find hope. We can be cheerful. Because we have faith. Because we know that God is with us.
So, let's read these words from the Bible. Let's listen to what they have to say to us. Let's find the hope that they offer.
The words of Mark 13:24-37 speak of a time of great tribulation, a time when the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven. This is a time of great upheaval, a time when the very foundations of the universe seem to be shaking. But in the midst of this turmoil, there is a promise. A promise of a coming power, a power that is both stirring and saving.
The words of 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 speak of the grace of God. This grace is not like the grace of the world. It's not a grace that is earned or deserved. It's a grace that is given freely, a grace that is given generously. It's a grace that enriches in every way, in all speech and all knowledge...
As we turn our attention to the words of Mark, we find ourselves in a world that seems to be falling apart ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
