Summary: Are we stewards of souls? Whose souls are we stewards of? When and where must we give account of our stewardship?

This is our second week of stewardship month. A time when we concentrated on biblical teaching of stewardship especially in the area of soulwinning emissions. Last week we looked at the stewardship of truth. That means we have been put in trust with sharing the truth with a lost and dying world. Let me start the message today by asking three questions: Are we stewards of souls? Whose souls are we stewards of? When and where must we give account of our stewardship?

I. Are We Stewards of Souls?

1. The Bible instructs that man is a being of three parts. 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 4:12

a. The body, world consciousness, Leviticus 17:11

b. The soul, self-consciousness, the real you. The body is just the house you live in. Genesis 2:7

c. The spirit, God consciousness, the only difference between the safe person and the last is the spirit of God. Ephesians 2:1, 1 Corinthians 3:16

d. Yes, man is a three part being, body, soul, and spirit.

2. The soul is the most important thing about you, not the body, mark 8:36-37

3. Most everything we do in this life, was for the body and the flesh.

a. We work hard. We save up to retire. Luke 12:20

b. Our body is an ever-changing thing. Financial, positional, looks are all everchanging.

c. Our soul, the real you, never changes.

d. So yes, we are souls. Our soul is the most important thing about us.

II. Whose Souls are We Stewards of?

1. There are only two types of souls in the world today. Saved and lost, Ezekiel 18:4, 20, 27

a. It is the soul of men that is saved. We will have a new body when we get to Heaven.

b. Acts 2:41, Hebrews 10:39, James 1:21, 5:20, 1 Peter 1:9

2. The saved soul is that soul that has placed its faith and trust in Jesus as personal savior. Don't forget about the lost soul is that person who rejects Jesus as personal savior.

a. That is why it is so important to respond to that feeling when God is speaking to your soul.

b. The soul says to come but the body says no.

3. Whose souls are we stewards of? In other words, who do we need to make sure gets saved?

4. First of all, our own soul. Salvation is a personal matter.

a. I can blame no one but myself if I die and go to hell.

b. No one can be saved for me, and no one can keep me from being saved.

c. Acts 16:30, John 3:3, revelation 3:20

d. You must either accept or reject Jesus and that and that alone determines your salvation.

5. Secondly, we are stewards of the soul of our own families.

a. Dads are to instruct their children. Deuteronomy 6:7, 11:18-21, Psalm 78:1-7.

b. Many Bible examples of dads getting saved and the whole family follows. Noah, Acts 16:33-34

c. we take a lax attitude toward the soul when compared to the body of our children.

1) We make sure our kids are dressed, washed, medications when their sick, sent to school.

2) The soul, not going to force my child to go to church. They can find Jesus when they are older.

d. Let me mention some dangers in this area. Stewards of the souls of children.

1) Some men brag about the number of children they have brought into this world. But God will hold them responsible for all of those children’s souls.

2) Many women have abortions. Yes, you may kill the body, but not the soul. They are safe with the Lord.

3) Moms and dads better think of those precious children. Start living for them. Not for yourself.

6. Third, we are stewards of the souls we come in contact with. Ezekiel 3:18

a. Myself, the people I know in this town.

b. Your friends

c. People that you work with.

7. Fourthly, we are stewards of the last. Here and around the world. Why?

a. Because of the Great Commission. Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8

b. Because of Romans 1:14-15, we are debtors.

III. When and Where Must We Give an Account of Stewardship of Souls?

1. According to Luke 16:2, Matthew 25:19, we will give account of all stewardship.

2. At the time of their death, we usually ask ourselves, “Did I do all I could do to reach that person for the Lord?”

3. When we die and go to Heaven, there will be all the saved we influenced or led to the Lord.

4. Final and most heart breaking, the Great White Throne Judgement.

a. Revelation 20:11-15, all the lost will be there.

b. We will see all we failed to reach for the Lord.

c. God help us to be good stewards of the lost and dying souls.
