You must remain true to Him who has appointed you.

Introduction

As believers in God's service, we are called to be faithful in the delivery of our assigned duties and personal commitment to Him who has appointed us (1 Corinthians 4:2). Just as Jesus Christ exemplified faithfulness, we too must follow His example as described in Hebrews 3:1-2a and Philippians 2:5-8.

Components of Faithfulness

To be faithful in our service, we need to understand the key elements that contributed to Jesus' faithfulness in His assignment.

1. Availability: Jesus made Himself available for His mission. He answered the call to go (Isaiah 6:8) and willingly set aside His glory to qualify for the assignment (Philippians 2:6-7). This shows that faithfulness in service requires sacrifice from the very beginning.

2. Humility: Humility is essential for faithfulness. Only the humble will receive the grace to complete their assignment (1 Peter 5:5-6). To be faithful, we must let go of pride and be clothed in humility. Pride has no place in serving God.

3. Obedience: Faithfulness in service requires obedience to God's instructions. We must carry out His commands as directed. The true measure of obedience is in the proper execution of the instruction. Jesus obeyed until death (Philippians 2:8), while Saul lost his position as king over Israel due to partial obedience (2 Samuel 15:18-22). Joshua was instructed to place a premium on obedience for success (Joshua 1:6-9). Obedience requires diligence, courage, and strength of character.

4. Commitment: Faithfulness demands commitment to the assignment. Jesus was so committed to His mission that He despised shame and endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2). We must be fully committed to serving God, regardless of the challenges or ridicule we may face.

5. Perseverance: Faithfulness requires perseverance and endurance until the very end. We must be willing to endure the cross, the challenges, and the ridicule. It is through enduring till the end that we can be considered worthy of the reward (Hebrews 12:2; Luke 9:62).

Rewards of Faithfulness

God is faithful to reward those who diligently serve Him. Hebrews 6:10-12 assures us that God will not forget our work and labor of love. The rewards of faithfulness include:

1. Seated in Glory: Those who are faithful will be seated in a place of honor and glory (Hebrews 12:2).

2. Promotion: Faithful servants will be promoted above their contemporaries (Philippians 2:9-11).

3. Success and Prosperity: Faithful servants will experience good success and prosperity (Joshua 1:6-9).

4. Abundant Blessings: Those who are faithful will receive a double portion of blessings (Matthew 25:14-28).

Conclusion

Moses was found faithful as a servant, and Jesus as a Son (Hebrews 3:1-6). Regardless of our capacity, faithfulness is expected from each one of us. We must be faithful to Him who has appointed us, just as Jesus exemplified faithfulness in His service. Let us strive to be faithful in our assignments, knowing that God is faithful to reward those who diligently serve Him.
