Esther 8: Mordecai Promoted

1 On that day King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews, to Queen Esther; and Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had disclosed what he was to her.

2 The king took off his signet ring which he had taken away from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

3 Then Esther spoke again to the king, fell at his feet, wept and implored him to avert the evil scheme of Haman the Agagite and his plot which he had devised against the Jews.

Esther 2:7” He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had no father or mother. Now the young lady was beautiful of form and face, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.”

The name ESTHER means STAR! I’m so excited to preach this message! Imagine an orphan girl brought up by her uncle Mordecai turn into a queen, the wife of Ahasuerus who ruled 127 provinces and a book of the Bible bearing her name. Incredible! God can do amazing things in our life too! How could you not feel thrilled to talk about this beautiful girl who created ripples in the city of Susan! She was a go-getter, trend-setter, game-changer, never content, fearless, unstoppable, unbreakable, tenacious, efficacious, tireless, confident, shrewd, astute, sharp, patient, wise, strong prayer warrior. Wow! She was a great package indeed! Come on girl….we can do it too, let us smash the enemy and hang him on the gallows. Hurray!

Hannah san:1 Samuel 2:8”He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s; on them he has set the world.”

Rocket-Boosters are used for take-off of the rocket, likewise Mordecai, Esther’s uncle was instrumental for stirring up Esther to stand for her people and talk to the king. The STAR rises from chapter 4, read:

Esther Plans to Intercede:

15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai,

16 "Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish."

17 So Mordecai went away and did just as Esther had commanded him.

Esther clearly knew that it will not be by power, or by might but by the Holy Spirit, that’s why she also decided to join Mordecai to a fast and pray, not just for a day but 3 days. Amen. You get the guts to do the impossible, God stirred the heart of king Ahasuerus to speak to Esther favorably, the death sentence was reversed, the people of God dominated over the evil forces and finally the city of Shushan was filled with joy. Amen. Clap hands and rejoice will you?

Esther boldly and wisely talked to the king, identified Haman as the prime culprit who schemed to kill the Jews and kept subtly interceding with the king until she got Haman hanged. Not enough she brought her uncle into the presence of the king and together they get the keys to the house of Haman. Incredible. The STAR that brought light in the city of Susan and saved scores of lives through her perseverance, intercession, prayers and wisdom.

We need more of such STARS in our church, Sunday School, Youth groups, women groups, prayer cell and in the secular world too! One such star can be the vital catalyst.

Isaiah 49:16 16Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.
