INTRODUCTION:
The last days are characterised by spiritual apathy, moral decay, and perilous times. Yet, God is calling His people to a deep and urgent spiritual awakening. Many are spiritually asleep—unaware of the nearness of Christ’s return and the urgency of the hour. It is a time to rise, to shine, and to return to fervent devotion. The awakening is not just a revival of emotions, but a restoration of intimacy with God, spiritual alertness, and purposeful living.
1. KNOWING THE TIMES DEMANDS SPIRITUAL ALERTNESS
We must discern the spiritual climate and respond rightly.
a) The Signs of the Times Are Evident
Increased wickedness, deception, and lawlessness are clear markers (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
b) We Cannot Afford to Be Spiritually Asleep
Slumbering Christians miss divine moments (Matthew 25:5).
c) Discernment Is Needed in a World of Distraction
Spiritual sleep leads to compromise and carnality (1 Thessalonians 5:6).
d) Awakening Starts With Recognising the Hour
Now is the time to wake up and arise (Romans 13:11).
Biblical Example – The ten virgins: only those who stayed alert entered with the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-13).
2. THE OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IGNITES AWAKENING
Revival begins when the Spirit moves in power.
a) God Promised an End-Time Outpouring
His Spirit will be poured on all flesh (Joel 2:28-29).
b) The Holy Spirit Revives the Dry and Dead
He breathes life into what is lifeless (Ezekiel 37:1-10).
c) Spiritual Awakening Involves Deep Conviction
The Spirit brings repentance and restoration (John 16:8).
d) Those Filled With the Spirit Will Manifest Power
Awakened believers walk in signs and fruit (Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22-23).
Biblical Example – The Day of Pentecost ignited a spiritual awakening in Jerusalem (Acts 2:1-4).
3. RETURNING TO FIRST LOVE IS KEY TO AWAKENING
True revival starts with renewed intimacy with Christ.
a) Spiritual Coldness Must Be Confronted
Many have a form of godliness but no power (Revelation 3:1).
b) Love for God Must Be Rekindled
Our devotion must be fresh, not mechanical (Revelation 2:4-5).
c) Holiness and Brokenness Are Marks of Awakening
God revives the contrite heart (Isaiah 57:15).
d) Prayer and Worship Reignite the Flame
True intimacy is built in the secret place (Psalm 63:1-2).
Biblical Example – King Josiah sparked national revival by turning back to God's Word (2 Kings 22:8-13).
4. AWAKENED BELIEVERS SHINE AS LIGHTS IN DARKNESS
An awakened Church impacts a sleeping world.
a) We Are Called to Be Salt and Light
We must influence and not be influenced (Matthew 5:13-16).
b) Revived People Carry the Burden for Souls
Evangelism becomes a passion (Romans 10:1).
c) Righteousness Becomes a Standard
We must be examples in conduct, speech, and purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
d) Awakening Births Action, Not Just Emotion
True revival produces lasting fruit (John 15:8).
Biblical Example – The early Church turned the world upside down through Spirit-empowered living (Acts 17:6).
5. JESUS IS COMING — STAY AWAKE AND READY
Spiritual awakening is urgent because the King is near.
a) The Return of Christ Is Imminent
He will come as a thief in the night (Revelation 3:3).
b) Only the Watchful Will Be Rewarded
Blessed are those found faithful (Luke 12:37).
c) Awakening Keeps You on the Narrow Path
Many are asleep and drifting (Matthew 7:13-14).
d) The Time to Awake Is Now
Delay is dangerous, urgency is needed (Hebrews 10:37-38).
Biblical Example – Noah remained spiritually awake and prepared for the flood when others mocked (Genesis 6:9-22).
CONCLUSION:
Spiritual awakening in the last days is not optional—it is critical. The Lord is seeking those who will shake off spiritual slumber, be filled with His Spirit, and live fully devoted to Him.
