Speak The Word

Matthew 8:5-13

5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

I have entitled this today: “Speak the Word”

How many know that there is power in the Word of God?

If there is power in the Word, then we need to learn to speak what it says.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

God’s Word is quick and it is powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword.

In our opening Scripture, Jesus has entered into Capernaum, and there came to Him a Centurion beseeching Him.

This centurion was a Roman captain that was over 100 people.

This centurion came beseeching Him, strongly requesting of Him, begging Him.

You need to understand that Jesus came not only to cleanse Israel, but to liberate the Gentile as well.

The Centurion soldier said to Jesus, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

This Gentile Centurion calls Him Lord, proclaiming Him, Lord of all.

According to the Jimmy Swaggart Expository Bible, this disease was a paralysis with contraction of the joints, accompanied with great suffering; the man’s life was threatened.

Verse 7 says, And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

The emphasis is not on the coming, but instead, on the One who is coming, Namely Christ.

The “I” is emphatic, meaning, “I can, and I will!”

This settles the question regarding Divine Healing.

Matthew 8:8

8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

The Centurion didn’t feel that He was worthy; this probably was because he was a Gentile.

He knew that all Jesus had to do was just speak the Word, and his servant would be healed.

The Word of Christ was all that was needed and the Centurion knew that.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Matthew 8:9 says:

9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

The intelligence of this Centurion was remarkable; he knew that the soldiers had to obey him because in his person, resided the authority of the emperor, and similarly, disease obeyed Jesus because in Him was the authority of God.

Verse 10 says when Jesus heard it He marvelled, He went on to say that He had not found so great faith in Israel.

The Gentiles were willing to accept who Jesus was but Israel would not.

Matthew 8:13

13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

I have entitled this today: “Speak the Word”

Here is the reason why:

Dream 1-28-09

I dreamed that I was at a pastor’s church. He was showing a video to the congregation. He was on the video. He was talking about speaking the Word and Miracles would take place. He put his hands on a woman that was blind and he spoke the Word. She was able to see. He then talked about Jesus, how all He had to do was just speak the Word and Miracles and Healings would take place. He talked about how Jesus’ life led Him to Calvary, but if He would have spoken the Word, the Angels would have set Him free. He went on to say Jesus loved us and because He is the Word of God, all things are possible.
