Psalm 61:1-8 SORROW’S SONG

I. SORROW’S REQUEST - 1-2

A. Lord Hear Me - 1 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

The Reality of His Pain - Absalom is dead, David’s heart is breaking.

The Response to His Pain - 1 Hear my cry,

The Resort for His Pain - O God

The Release from His Pain - attend unto my prayer.

B. Lord Help Me - 2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee,

David feels removed -

Physically - 2 From the end of the earth

Spiritually - will I cry unto thee

Emotionally - when my heart is overwhelmed:

C. Lord Hide Me - 2 lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

The Stability of the Rock - 2 lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

The Security of the Rock - Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower:

the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

II. SORROW’S REST - 3 For thou hast been a shelter for me,

The Rest Of God’s Provision - For thou hast been a shelter for me,

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

The Rest Of God’s Protection - and a strong tower from the enemy

a place above the fight and the fray.

The Rest Of God’s Perfection - Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The Assurance - And we know that all things

The Assistance - work together for good

The Acquaintance - to them that love God.

The Accordance - to them, who are the called according to his purpose

III. SORROW’S RESOLVE - 4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever:

I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

It's Commitment - 4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever:

Psalm 57:1 Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

IV. SORROW’S RESPONSE - 5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows:

A Declaration of God’s Faithfulness

God Perception Of David - For thou, O God, hast heard my vows:

God Promotion Of David - thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.

A Demonstration in God’s Faithfulness

David's life Prolonged -

6 Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.

David's life Preserved -

7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.

A Dedication to God’s faithfulness -

The Praise of Man - 8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever,

The Piety of Man - that I may daily perform my vows.
