SOME THINGS WE NEED TO BE GOOD STEWARDS OVER

Luke 12:42-44

Intro: The Lord is using a parable to illustrate someone doing a job of a steward that has been given them by their Lord. That job is giving the household their portion of meat or serving them their food. In verse 43 he responds by saying “Blessed is that servant, whom is lord when he cometh shall find so doing. v 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. The word steward simply means a “keeper” or a “manager”. I believe to some degree each one of us in here have been made stewards by the Lord and that is what I want to preach on for a little while tonight. I want to preach on the subject, “SOME THING WE NEED TO BE GOOD STEWARDS OVER.”

I. GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR TIME

A. (Hebrews 10:23) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

B. (Hebrews 10:24) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

C. (Hebrews 10:25) Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

D. Jesus was a great example of this in John 9 when he said

1. (John 9:4) I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

E. (Ephesians 5:16) Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

F. (Colossians 4:5) Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

G. You have heard the old saying “Time is on our side” That is not true anymore”

II. GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR TESTIMONY

A. (Proverbs 22:1) A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

1. A lot of people have sold out their testimony for fortune and fame

2. But now as they sit lonely, broke and destitute and no one even knows who they are they would give anything to have that testimony back

B. (Ecclesiastes 7:1) A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

1. A good name represents a good character. Precious ointment represents what is costly and fragrant, but even the most costly perfume can never take the place of an honorable life.

III. A GOOD STEWARD OF THE TRUTH

A. God has entrusted His gospel in our hands to be spread to a lost and dying world

B. He left it for preachers to preach, for teachers to teach, and for all believers to tell of the name of Jesus whereby men must be saved (Acts 4:12)

C. So if we are to be a good steward them we must tell someone about Jesus

D. The lids of our KJB should be worn out but I am afraid they are getting dusty

IV. GOOD STEWARD OF OUR TENDER AND TITHES

A. A lot of people laugh and shrug it off when the preacher hits on finances at church. But I am not preaching just about finances at the church tonight I am preaching about finances at the home also

B. There is not enough preaching on debt and money management these days

C. The main reason why is because most pastors and preachers cant manage themselves

D. But I am preaching this tonight with a clear conscious and from experience and some of you can relate because you have been there

E. Tennessee, Utah, Georgia and Alabama have the highest bankruptcy rates in the nation

F. Already this year in Tennessee 94,076 people have filed bankruptcy.

1. Credit Cards

2. Medical Bills (becoming number 1 with the diminishing of TennCare)

3. Loss of Job…(ie overbearing debt, luxuries they cant afford)

G. People refuse to tithe then they will set at homes while the foreclosure notice is being served or while their car is being repossessed and wonder why they are having so much financial trouble

H. People will run off on lavish vacations knowing they don’t have a dime to spend put it on a credit card and pay it back $10 forever

I. Christmas time has sent a lot of people packing it to the lawyers office to file bankruptcy

J. A lot of people have gone out and bout new cars, homes and electronics knowing they were going to have to file bankruptcy. That is the same thing as stealing

K. I am going to give you the plan that is guaranteed to keep you from having so much financial trouble. I am on this plan, some of you are on this plan and I invite others to get on this plan
