A slight thing for God

2 Kings 3:18 “This is but a slight thing in the sight of the LORD; He will also give the Moabites into your hand.”

Wait a minute……God just knows how to get your attention, just when you think you have got everything planned meticulously, He would squash it so that you look up at Him. Anybody gone through that kind of situation? I have. When people with good position and titles gather they think they don’t need God, are you listening? 3 kings joined forces to do battle against the Moabites, none of them checked with God though, since they were kings, I guess they thought they need no endorsement from God. When we also slip into this kind of brash attitude of being over confident, independent and self-reliant, we tend to lose sight of God.

Sometimes our skills, talents, bank balance, steady job, good health, good kids, strong marriage, own house, pension, all this becomes a stumbling block from depending solely on God but when you face a situation when NONE of the above toys can help you then you are able to humble and detach yourself from all those stuff that had been keeping you away from God. Stay with me as I explain this……

Journey route: The three great kings got together, it was an alliance which by itself was not right in the sight of God in the first place; well , it was decided and planned that they go by the way of the wilderness of Edom. They were super confident of crossing the wilderness of Edom without any hassles but suddenly…. say SUDDENLY again, they faced a major problem that even threatened their lives and that was WATER! There was no water for the army or for the cattle, are you listening? Even before they could face the battle, something else cropped up that possessed their attention. You need to stop here and take in this message and digest it.

I was very much dependent on a particular teacher who worked for our free school for the poor, Abide School. She would say, ‘leave it to me madam, I will take care’, and I did. She was efficient, honest, punctual, loyal, neat, highly educated – she was a super package of all-in-one kind of person. One particular day ‘suddenly’ she walked into my office room and submitted her resignation, even the day before she did not give me clue about it, this was a bomb shell dropped on me. I cried the whole night not because she resigned but because she did not give me any prior information, God did not comfort me that night, He was strengthening me that night to make me a strong person to run the school.

Get the right counsel: Right in the midst of that dark situation, Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with prophet Elisha”, the three super smart kings go to the prophet. You go to the right, anointed person when your supplies are nipped! The only hope for the team was Jehoshaphat, even Elisha agreed to help them because of Jehoshaphat. You need to have a godly person always in your team so that he checks your direction when you turn the wrong side.

Miracle proclaimed: God would send water not through normal rain but the prophet said: "Thus says the LORD, 'Make this valley full of trenches.' 17 "For thus says the LORD, 'You shall not see wind nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, both you and your cattle and your beasts.”

Though tough obey God: The army was tired and exhausted without water; however, prophet Elisha told them to dig trenches, this is going to take lot of sweat as well as faith. Imagine you don’t have water to drink but you got to dig trenches for ‘water’ that you don’t know from where it would flow. That’s faith! The ‘say and move the mountain’ faith touched me tremendously while I was 5 months pregnant with my second child with multiple complications that almost threatened my life and that of my baby. Doctors had warned and threatened me to remove my 5 months old unborn baby – abortion was their verdict, but God in His Word said, ‘when you believe you have already RECEIVED the healing! Wow! I literally believed! Do that! Period. Child-like faith keeps you strong, take your brains and keep it in your pocket that talks against God, the world has no answers for your problems. People told me :

• You have to be wise and listen to the doctor and abort your child if not your life is in danger

• Others said, ‘think sensibly’

• Some people said: ‘don’t be emotional, remember you are educated
