For many of God's children there is no progress, no forward state, in their spiritual life and in their earthly life, but dryness, weariness, and decay. Thinking about what is the reason, it is not possible to find that reason. But God is in grace to speak on the subject of man's tongue, or word, which seems small in the eyes of man, great in the sight of God, and does much good in life, and at the same time causes much harm because it is misused. Here we see Isaiah whose iniquity of the tongue is gone, or whose sin is gone. Isaiah says I am a man of unclean lips; Dwelling in the midst of a people of unclean lips;

What is the characteristic of the tongue? Proverbs 18:20-21 From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. 21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. A man's belly is filled with the fruit of his mouth; He shall be satisfied with the fruit of his lips; Death and life are in the power of the tongue; Those who love it will experience its results. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. How many murders have been committed for a single word. How many family ties have been severed. How many suicides are taking place. The tongue is the cause of many people's spiritual life being weak, dry, and many backsliding. Their tongue is the cause of the dryness of the earthly life of many, and of their laboring day and night, without any good or progress. Let us be at the Lord's feet, opening our hearts and saying, Holy One, speak to me.

James 3:2-12 “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water”.

We all stumble in many things; If one does not stumble in his word, he is a virtuous man, strong and able to control his whole body. To control the horse, the bridle is put in the mouth and its whole body is turned. No matter how big the ship or how stormy it is, the helmsman steers it in the direction indicated to him by the smallest rudder. In the same way, the tongue, although it is a small organ, speaks very loudly. How a small fire burns a large forest; The tongue is also a fire; It pollutes the whole body as an unrighteous world among our members and sets fire to the cycle of life and sets it on fire with hell. All beasts, birds, reptiles, and aquatic creatures are and have been addicted to the human race. Neither the tongue nor men can heal; It is an inexhaustible evil; Full of deadly poison. Therefore we praise the Lord and Father; Human beings made in the image of God are therefore cursed. Praise and cursing proceed from the same mouth. Brethren, it is not worthy to be like this. Can sweet and sour water come out of the same hole in the spring? Brethren, shall the fig tree bear olives, and the vine figs? And sweet water will not flow from the mountain.
