Message Point: Sin is real. It keeps us from God, but once forgiven, is gone forever.
Focus Passage: Romans 6:1-14
Supplemental Passage: Micah 7:19 He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea.
Introduction:
I. The Unrighteous
a. I’ve never committed murder or adultery. “but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28)
b. I’m a good person. “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23)
c. I do good things. “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.” (Isaiah 64:6)
II. The Penitent
a. My sin is ever before me. (Ps 51:3)
b. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
c. Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? (Romans 7:24)
III. The Forgiver
a. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19)
