Summary: Dealing with sin
“Sin In The Camp” Joshua 7:1-26
Introduction
Even though you’re saved (crossed Jordan) still prone to sin.
I. SIN – SATAN v.1
A. Don’t underestimate power of Satan
B. Defeat
a. Comes after victory
b. Comes when least expected
c. Comes when we feel strong in ourselves
d. Comes when we neglect our prayer life
e. Comes when we’re not following the Lord’s mandate
f. One man’s sin can implicate whole church
II. SEDUCTION – v.21
A. Temptation – Js. 1:14-15 “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”
B. Psychiatrists Explanations
a. Sickness – is not a sickness, is a moral failure
b. Blame inanimate object –
c. “Desires” – any form – good or evil. In NT usually evil
C. Question of Why Whole Family involved in punishment
a. Were probably aware of Achan’s sin – (in floor of tent)
b. Sin defiles the whole camp
c. Affects people other than you
D. “Lust” – Like evil woman parading her assets.
III. SELECTION – (Do we have a choice?) – yes we do!
A. Remedy – Phillipians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.”
a. Concentrate on subjects that are pure and holy.
b. Bible teaches we can control what we think
c. Meditate on the person and work of Jesus Christ (Positive thinking.)
Conclusion
Don’t underestimate the enemy, your sin affects others beside yourself, you can choose not to sin
