Summary: God is so much similar to His word – the Bible. The two are so closely connected that it is impossible to separate the attributes of God’s word (Bible) from God Himself.

Intro: The Gospel of John begins by calling “the Word of God” as God (Read John 1:1). This opens up an interesting study between “the Word” (Jesus) and “the word” (Bible). In our study we are going to see that God is so much similar to His word – the Bible. The two are so closely connected that it is impossible to separate the attributes of God’s word (Bible) from God Himself. We shall see from this brief study that there are some attributes of God that are equally true for the Bible! There are at least seven similarities between God and the Bible:

1) GOD IS PERFECT, THE BIBLE IS ALSO PERFECT.

Matt. 5:48 – “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

Psa. 19:7 – “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.”

2) GOD IS ETERNAL, THE BIBLE IS ALSO ETERNAL.

Psa. 90:2 – “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

Matt. 24:35 – “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

3) GOD IS LIGHT, THE BIBLE IS ALSO LIGHT.

I John 1:5 – “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

Psa. 119:105 – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

4) GOD IS SPIRIT, THE BIBLE IS ALSO SPIRIT.

John 4:24 – “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

John 6:63 – “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

5) GOD IS ABLE TO SAVE YOUR SOUL, THE BIBLE IS ALSO ABLE TO SAVE YOUR SOUL.

Psa 72:13 – “He (God) shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.”

Jas. 1:21 – “Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

6) GOD IS ABLE TO SANCTIFY BELIEVERS, THE BIBLE IS ALSO ABLE TO SANCTIFY BELIEVERS.

I Thess. 5:23 – “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

John 17:17 – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

7) GOD WILL JUDGE IN THE LAST DAY, THE BIBLE WILL ALSO JUDGE IN THE LAST DAY.

I Peter 4:5 – “Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.”

John 12:48 – “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”

Conclusion: From this short study, we have carefully considered how the character of the Lord is very strongly reflected and tied up with the character of His word – the Holy Bible. Next to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible is perhaps the greatest reflection of God’s nature.

Who and what God is, His word is oftentimes similar. So to say that the Bible has errors is like saying that God Himself is imperfect! We cannot have a perfect God and have an imperfect Bible at the same time!! The Bible warns men in Prov. 13:13 that, “Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.”
