Summary: Jesus was clear that our walk should be marked by signs and wonders. What is following you? Is your life “signless”?

Signs

Pt. 6

I just want to make a few comments this morning to help set the stage for what we are about to do.

Text: John 21:1-6

1 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[a] It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. 6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

II. Signs

a. Sometimes you are closer to your answer than you think.

They had been there all night and were right on top of their miracle and didn’t know it. You are closer to your miracle than you think you are today! If we are not careful we will just see this as another service, another fishing trip, another waste of time. You are right on top of your miracle!

b. Your miracle can come through doing something you have already done many times.

They had already cast their nets many times that evening. It was something they had already done. The difference was Jesus got involved in this attempt. Many of you have already done much of what we are going to do today. You have prayed. You have cried. You have believed. But don’t discount the fact that Jesus wants to involve Himself today. Do what He says and see if what you have already done before doesn’t produce miraculous results today.

3. The miracle was not the end!

Once the miracle took place the hard work began. They now had hours of cleaning and preserving their harvest. Your miracle will require work. If you are willing to cry out in desperation today over your marriage, finances, body, spiritual and emotional condition you have to be willing to do the work after the miracle to preserve it and care for it! Today isn’t the end it is in fact the beginning.
