Summary: A message on the Return of Christ.

SIGNS OF THE LORD’S NEAR COMING

Luke 21:31

INTRO: We hear preachers telling us that we are living in the last days, and that Jesus could come at any time, and we wonder if they know what they are talking about, and where they get their ideas. The following are some of the prophetic signs of the near approach of the Lord s coming.

I. PHYSICAL SIGNS.

The powers of heaven will be shaken, the sun and moon will be

clouded, etc. (Luke 21:25).

There will be trouble in the world powers (Mark 13:8). Worldwide

famine is predicted for next century.

Jesus promised physical signs (Acts 2:19-20).

II. INTELLECTUAL SIGNS.

The inventions will give rapid transit and increased knowledge

(Daniel 12:4).

Scoffing scientists will assert uniformity of nature and deny

Christ (2 Peter 3:3-4).

Evil men will postpone it in their heart (Matthew 24:48).

III. COMMERCIAL SIGNS.

Business will flourish, and men will be caught up in worldliness

(Luke 17:28-30). Today, Sunday is just like any other day for

businesses.

Men will be overcome with the cares of the world (Luke 21:34-35).

People get so busy trying to make money they forget Christ and the

church.

IV. POLITICAL SIGNS.

There will be great national distress and fear for things coming on

the earth (Luke 21:25-26; Daniel 11:40; Ezekiel 38).

There will be a false peace and safety with reference to any

judgment from God (1 Thessalonians 5:1-13).

The world will be angry with God (Revelation 11:18).

V. SOCIAL SIGNS.

Lawlessness against authority in families (2 Thessalonians 2:7-8).

VI. SPIRITUAL SIGNS.

A terrible apostasy of unbelief (Luke 18:8; 2 Thessalonians 2:3).

Lukewarmness, formalism and worldliness among Christians (Matthew

24:12).

VII. EVANGELISTIC SIGNS.

There will be a great revival of evangelistic zeal in spreading the

gospel (Matthew 24:14).
