JAMES 2:14-26

INTRODUCTION:

Last time we looked at The Prayer of Faith

We saw that…

Prayer is Asking and

Faith is Believing and

Believing is Receiving.

We saw how most always people received a miracle based upon their Faith and

How Jesus could not perform many miracles in His hometown due to their Lack of Faith.

So I want to ask you now…

Is Faith all that matters?

How do you know that you are in the Faith? How do others know?

How do you build your Faith? How do you build faith in others?

If you had to prove your Faith, could you?

Tonight, could you “Show me your Faith.”?

So let us look now at James 2:14-26

I- But are we not Saved by Faith Alone?

Ephesians 2:8-9 Saved by Grace thru Faith (But Read On)

Acts 16:31 Believe upon the LORD and you will be Saved

John 3:15-18 Whosoever believes shall be Saved

Romans 10:8-11 Confess and Believe and be Saved

Hebrews 11:6 Whosoever Comes (by Diligently Seeking) must Believe…

II-Are we Saved By our Works or For Good Works?

John 3:3-7 Born Again

II Corinthians 5:17-18 A new Creation

Ephesians 2:8-10 Created for good works

Romans 10:17 Faith comes by hearing the Word of God

James 1:21-25 Be Doers not Hearers only (knowing is one thing, doing is another)

(Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is)

III-So what are Works for?

JAMES 2:14-26 Cause and Effect

If faith is believing, then our belief system should cause us to act upon our beliefs/convictions.

Hebrews 11:1 Faith is…The Evidence of things not seen

James 2:18 Show Faith By Works (So Works is the Evidence of Faith/Evidence Of a Changed Life)

John 13:35 To be known as a Man of Faith

Colossians 2:6-7, Jude 1:20 Built up in Faith

Matthew 5:14-16 So others may see and glorify God

Romans 10:13-15 So others may Hear and Believe?

Maybe that is why we have the Great cloud of witnesses spoken of in Hebrews 11

To give us an example to follow

IV-So what Works should our Faith produce?

The Work of God

John 9:1-5 I must work the works of Him Who sent me

The Work of Christ

Matthew 9:35-38 Jesus went about Teaching, Preaching and Healing

Our Work

John 20:21-23 As I was sent So send I you

We are Sent to DO a Work

Matthew 10:1, 7-8 Jesus Sends

Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus Sends

Mark 16:14-18 Jesus Sends

Is this Work only for Preachers or Apostles?

Acts 8:1-4

Now let us return to

James 2:15-16 Providing for those you know have need

So What will be the Consequences?

Matthew 25:31-46 Dividing Sheep and Goats (When you do it unto the least of these…)

CONCLUSION:

“When the Son of Man comes, shall He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8).

So NO we are NOT Saved by our Works but we are Saved FOR Good Works.

It should be but a Natural, or Supernatural Reflex.

I am not married because of what I Do for my wife…

I Do what I Do for my Wife Because I am married to her and Because I Love her.

Does my life or my Actions in Life Prove or Show my Love for my wife?

Well then Does my Actions Prove I am a Believer, a Man of Faith?

If we were on trial tonight for our Faith would there be any or enough evidence to convict us.

Will our names be written down in history books somewhere for our Acts of Faith?

What good is our Faith if it does not Cause us to Act upon what we Believe?
