Nehemiah 6 v. 11 Should such a man as I flee? 1. He Overcame Distraction - 6:3 And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? Nehemiah Saw :- (a) The Priority Of The Work Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Not Medicine – Law – Politics – or Anything Else” (b) The Potential Of The Work Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (c) The Pattern Of The Work Heb 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds (d) The Prize Of The Work Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Hudson Taylor " If God calls you to be a missionary don't stoop to be a king" (e) The Power Of The Work (God's Work) Philipians 2 v 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” I Cor. 15:58
2. He Overcame Defamation - 6:6 Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.
a) He Couldn't Stop The Lie 5 Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand; b) He Couldn't Stop The Liar 8 Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart. c) He Could Stop The Link [note that he stopped corresponding with them - to keep corresponding with our defamers just encourages them] Tit 3:10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
3. He Overcame Discouragement - 6:9-11
a) The Bold Accusation - 6:9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
b) The Bad Advice -:10 Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.
c) The Brave Affirmation -11 And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life I will not go in A Man Who Was:- Sent by Divine Assignment Strengthened by Divine Ability Surrounded by Divine Associations Saturated with Divine Assurance Acts 20:22 (Paul) And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 4. He Overcame Deception - 6:12 a) His Discernment 12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
b) His Determination 13 Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me. c) His Devotion 14 My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.
