Short Challenge: God's Word Series
Contributed by Nate Herbst on Jan 15, 2009 (message contributor)
Summary: This is a short challenge on valuing God’s Word by reading, studying, memorizing, meditating on and applying God’s Word and so being transformed into His very nature and character.
Short Challenge: Knowing, loving and applying God’s Word.
It’s been said, “we only treat God as good as we treat His Word.
Again: Jer.30:21 - “who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?”
Will you devote yourself to getting close to Him?
Communication required to grow closer to God.
Hearing from Him. Every time I get in His Word I hear from Him directly.
Heb.4:12 - “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
His Word will engage you on every level. Not passive.
James 1:15 - Sin begins in our thinking (remember Mt.5:28). Thought precedes action. Is.55:8-9 - God thinks differently and therefore acts differently than us. If I want to act like Him, I’ve got to think like Him. Think like Jesus - act like Jesus. Rom.12:1-2 - That’s why I’m transformed by the renewing of my mind. Get in the Word - think more and more like Him - begin transformation becoming more like Him.
Ps.119:11 - Hide Word in heart - won’t sin against Him. I begin acting more like Him, the more I read, study, meditate on, memorize and apply His Word.
Mt.4:4 - His Word is more vitally needed than the food I eat.
Get in the Word - be committed to it - you will be transformed from the inside out.
