Summary: Believers in Christ are called to shine as light in a dark world through conduct and testimonies.
SHINNING LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD
Believers are called out of darkness to shine and make tremendous impact in a dark world. The positive impact of a believer not only preaches or show cases Christ but glories our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible says to us:
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid (Matthew 5:14).
There are millions of ways we can shine as light. Jesus did not hide Himself as the Light of the World. With any and every opportunity, Jesus declared and proved Himself to be the Light of the World.
In John 8:12, the Bible says, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
As Jesus is, so we Believers are and ought to be. Since Jesus is Light and and shines, so we, who are called by Him unto him ought to also shine.
One of the true mark of a believer, true followers of Christ, is never walking in darkness again. Jesus never walked in darkness. He said in 1 John 4:17b as He is so are we in this World.
The Bible says
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. [1 John 2:6].
Jesus even encourages Believers to do greater works than those of His. In
John 14:12, Jesus says; Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Jesus is the Light of the World in every sense of it. He shined, He is shinning and will forever shine.
In John 9:5 He said, "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
As long as I am in the World ... Have you ever imagined a Life, a World without Jesus? What a dark life, what a dark world that will be.
Jesus expects every Believer to shine His light to the world according to His Word in John 12:46, He said, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”
The question remains, how can we shine as light in today's world of darkness?
Firstly, Believers must carry Jesus every where they go. Jesus admonishes us to do so. He said in Matthew 5:16; “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Secondly, Believers must think Jesus always. The Bible says; in
Philippians 4:8; Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Thirdly, Believers must have faith and be positive in every situation.
John 8:12 says
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Fourthly, testify of the goodness of the Lord, showcase Him through evangelism. Believers have testimonies that people in the dark world has never seen or known. One sure way of letting them know is through our testimonies.
Revelation 12:11 say And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Then Jesus instructed us in Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Fiftly, Believers must live a life of impact, full of good works. In your little way, positively contribute to the well being of humanity. In Matthew 5:16; He said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Sixthly, manifest the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is with Believers always to show and prove Himseld mighty on their behalf. Jesus says in
Mark 16:17, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;. The miracles will happen, not in your name, but in the name of Jesus. He promised that he will never leave us nor forsake us. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:5; Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Finally, Light represents everything good and darkness represents everything bad. To shine as Jesus did, we must invite Him into our life and live a life pleasing unto Him. Jesus admonishes every one in John 15:4; Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
