Sharpening Of The Christian

As we walk in our faith today. We look at the process that we go through and the many struggles of our walk by faith. We tend to constantly fall and get up, always staying in a need of repentance. As we look at our inner self we ask the question: “How Do We Stay Focused On During Our Walk With GOD?”

As we analyze and review our walk we find that most of the time we ourselves are not duly focused on being better with GOD being the head of our lives. After relying on the word of GOD we do find certain things that come to hinder us in our daily walk. So how do we “Sharpen Ourselves?” Proverbs 27:17 says that: “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”. As we look into this passage lets take it into our lives as such. When we as Christian take the time to spend with each other, there is a process of sharpening. We are truly a people of GOD and are defined by the Blood of Jesus, Our Lord & Savior. In 1 Peter 2:9 it says: “but you are a chosen people, royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to GOD, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” By this we are given a spiritual advantage a “Razor’s Edge” to say. This is needed in order to be victorious in the world and leads to a heavenly realm.

Let’s take a look at our environment in which we live. How about the part of town or your neighborhood that you live in. People around you are different in all ways. You may call something one thing and them another. You have different sounds and difference in the way you speak about something or someone. In your quote: “Hood”, you may greet a friend by saying: “What’s good Mo”, or “What’s popping”. And some else may say: “What it does” or What’s down”. The point of this is that we take on our environment, such as speech & actions. Proverbs 13:20 says: “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” & 1 Corinthians 15:33 states: “Do not be misled, Bad company corrupts good character.” When you are with other that are in the Body Of Christ, you will become a stronger & better Christian. If you have others around you that are not of faith, the sharpening process won’t take place and you will lose your edge for Christ.

The entire process of: “Sharpening The Christian” comes down to each and everyone of us, being able to help sharpen ourselves. There are various techniques that you can use for this.

1. Show love for one another. You can find this in John 13:34-35, for one of the greatest commandments was for us to love each other as we love ourselves. Jesus made this quite clear when He said: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

2. Confession & Prayer for one another. James 5:16 states: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Today so many times we pray not for those that suffer, but against them in their suffering. GOD has instructed us to be in a loving manner that healing will take place and that those of us, even ourselves are prayed for and over, so that we ourselves can heal and promote healing with in those that are brothers and sisters of faith.

3. Singing and studying with one another. Doing what is the necessary thing for each other helps us to stay focused on GOD. Studying the word of GOD with others and singing hymns with others of the faith, helps to further the process of sharpening. Read Colossians 3:16 to know and understand the importance of togetherness in Christ.

4. Showing humility to one another. Philippians 2:3-4 says: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Showing that you care for the well being of others is a show of giving of yourselves freely as Christ so commanded. “ Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13.

5. Words & deeds of encouragement for one another. Do encourage yourselves and each other in your walk of faith. 1 Thessalonians 4:18 & 5:11 state this all so well. Also in Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another daily, as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
