Summary: I preached this message coming out of a series of revival meetings to challenege our people to stay committed to their God-given task and to keep our church in the center of God’s will.

Shall Our Work Cease?

Nehemiah 6:1-16

I. The Enemy Will Try to Distract a Great Work (v. 1-2)

A. The enemy will take notice of a great work

1. He hates obedience

2. He hates commitment

B. The enemy will always have a following

What Can Cause Us to Follow the Enemies Tactics?

• Lack of prayer & bible study

• Selfish desires

• Lack of Lordship

C. The enemy will always have another way

We Must Remember the Devil is:

• A deceiver

• An accuser

• A liar

II. We Must Always Reject the Enemy’s Tactics (v. 3-14)\

A. We reject the Enemies tactics by:

1. Recognizing the work to be done

“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down..” – v. 3

2. Recognizing the importance of time stewardship

“…Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you.” – v. 3

3. Recognizing the need for perseverance

“But they sent me the same message four times and I answered the in the same manner” – v. 4

4. Recognizing the need for discernment

“Then I sent to him saying, No such things as you say are being done, but you invent them in your own heart” – v. 8

“Then I perceived that God had not sent him at all…” v. 12

B. We Reject the enemies tactics by standing firm

“And I said should such a man as I flee?...” v. 11

III. The Results of Not Letting the Work Cease (v. 15-16)

A. It will result in completing the God-given task. (v. 15)

What task has God given you that you have not completed?

What task does God have for our church that we need to complete?

B. It will result in serving notice to the enemy (v. 16a)

C. It will result in God gaining glory (v. 16b)

1. God will get glory out of a visionary leader – Nehemiah

2. God will get glory out of a completed task – The Wall

3. God will get glory out of a faithful people – The work did not cease
