SET YOUR HEART ON FIRE AGAIN
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Luke 24:32
Supporting Texts: Romans 12:11, Revelation 2:4-5, Psalm 85:6, Jeremiah 20:9, Acts 2:1-4
INTRODUCTION:
The human heart is the centre of passion, devotion, and direction. When the heart is set ablaze by the Spirit of God, everything about the believer becomes vibrant and impactful. In Luke 24:32, the disciples exclaimed, “Did not our heart burn within us?” as they recalled the moment Jesus spoke to them. This burning was not emotionalism; it was a supernatural ignition of spiritual life and clarity.
Today, many believers have allowed the fire in their hearts to die out. The pressures of life, distractions of the world, and disappointments in ministry can all contribute to spiritual coldness. God’s desire, however, is to see our hearts burning once again with love, truth, and the power of the Holy Ghost.
This sermon is a divine call to return to spiritual fire. The fire must be rekindled so that we can live effectively, worship fervently, and serve passionately. Now is the time to set your heart on fire again!
1. RECOGNISE THE LOSS OF FIRE
a) Be honest about spiritual dryness (Revelation 3:17):
Many pretend all is well, while their heart has grown cold.
b) Identify when passion is replaced by routine (Malachi 1:13):
When service becomes a burden, the fire is gone.
c) Examine your love for God (Revelation 2:4):
Losing your first love is a sign of dwindling fire.
d) Spiritual apathy leads to vulnerability (Matthew 26:40-41):
A cold heart becomes an easy target for temptation.
Biblical Example: The Laodicean Church – Thought they were rich, but were lukewarm and blind (Revelation 3:14–22).
2. RETURN TO THE WORD AND HIS PRESENCE
a) The Word rekindles fire in the heart (Jeremiah 23:29):
Scripture is like fire and a hammer that transforms the soul.
b) Fellowship with Jesus brings heart revival (Luke 24:32):
As He speaks, our hearts come alive again.
c) Time in His presence restores hunger (Psalm 63:1):
God satisfies the thirsty soul with fresh fire.
d) Prayer opens the door for renewed encounter (Acts 1:14):
A prayerful atmosphere is a fiery atmosphere.
Biblical Example: The Emmaus Disciples – Their hearts burned as Jesus walked and talked with them (Luke 24:13–32).
3. STOKE THE FIRE THROUGH SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE
a) Consistency in prayer and worship (1 Thessalonians 5:17):
Daily communion keeps the flame alive.
b) Fasting and consecration purifies the heart (Isaiah 58:6):
Fasting breaks yokes and renews spiritual strength.
c) Fellowship with the brethren (Hebrews 10:25):
God often uses others to fan our flames.
d) Obedience to divine instruction brings more fire (John 14:21):
As we obey, He manifests more of Himself to us.
Biblical Example: Daniel – Maintained spiritual fire in Babylon through prayer and discipline (Daniel 6:10).
4. PROTECT YOUR FIRE FROM EXTINGUISHING FORCES
a) Avoid spiritual distractions (Luke 10:40-42):
Choose intimacy over busyness.
b) Deal with hidden sin (Psalm 66:18):
Sin is a fire extinguisher to spiritual fervency.
c) Resist the influence of cold believers (1 Corinthians 15:33):
Bad company quenches good fire.
d) Guard your heart with all diligence (Proverbs 4:23):
A polluted heart cannot burn brightly.
Biblical Example: Solomon – His heart turned cold due to foreign influences (1 Kings 11:1–9).
5. LIVE AS A FLAME FOR OTHERS
a) Be a burning and shining light (John 5:35):
Set ablaze not only for yourself but to inspire others.
b) Let your fire influence your environment (Acts 17:6):
Spirit-filled believers turn cities upside down.
c) Minister from the overflow of fire (Acts 6:8):
When full of fire, you impact lives with ease.
d) Sustain revival through consistent testimony (Revelation 12:11):
Sharing your fire helps spread the flame.
Biblical Example: Paul – A blazing torch who kept the fire till the end (2 Timothy 4:6–8).
CONCLUSION:
The cry of the Spirit in this season is for believers to reignite their passion and spiritual fervency. The coldness of the world must not infect the heart of the church. God is searching for those who will burn again with unquenchable fire—men and women who will shake nations by their fiery love and bold obedience.
It’s time to return, rebuild, and rekindle the fire. Let the Word stir you, let the Spirit consume you, and let your life become a living flame. Set your heart on fire again—this is the hour of spiritual revival!
