Contributed by Kyle Sullivan on Jun 15, 2011 (message contributor)
Summary: Sermon Series I preach when our Church went through Rick Warren's C.L.A.S.S. Christian Life And Service Seminars Thanks to Rick Warren for the Foundation of this Sermon Series
WE BECOME WHAT WE ARE COMMITTED TO!
How? Matthew 16:24-28
1. We must Deny ourselves and put Christ first!
Hebrews 11:24-26 “By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.” (NIV)
Question: How is Christ first in your life?
2. Know there will be Sacrifices made!
1 Peter 4:1-2 “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.” (NIV)
Remember pain means you are alive!
3. And you must Commit Totally!
Revelation 3:15-16 “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (NIV)
Calvary’s Membership Covenant
1. I will Protect the Unity of the church!
Romans 15:5-6 “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NIV)
2. I will Share in the Responsibilities of the church!
2 Timothy 4:5 “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” (NIV)
3. I will Serve in the Ministries of the church!
Philippians 2:4-5 & 7“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ ... who took on the very nature of a servant” (NIV)
4. I will Support the Life of my church!
Philippians 1:27 “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” (NIV)
