Session #1 "What God Has Done For Us!" Series
Contributed by Kyle Sullivan on Jun 16, 2011 (message contributor)
Summary: Sermon Series I preach when our Church went through Rick Warren's C.L.A.S.S. Christian Life And Service Seminars Thanks to Rick Warren for the Foundation of this Sermon Series
1 Peter 2:7-8a "Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone," and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." (NIV)
Jesus Christ is the Foundation of all that we believe and hope!
1. Our Salvation! John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV)
Our Problem: Sin
1 John 1:8-9 "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (NIV)
What does God want me to do?
ADMIT THAT GOD HAS NOT BEEN FIRST PLACE IN YOUR LIFE AND ASK HIM TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS.
BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED TO PAY FOR YOUR SINS AND THAT HE ROSE AGAIN, AND IS ALIVE TODAY.
Romans 10:9-10
ACCEPT GOD'S FREE GIFT OF SALVATION. WE CAN NOT EARN IT.
Ephesians 2:8-9
INVITE JESUS CHRIST TO COME INTO YOUR LIFE AND BE THE "LORD" OF YOUR LIFE.
John 1:12-13, Romans 10:13
2. Our Baptism! Matthew 3:16 "As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him." (NIV)
What does Baptism mean for me?
IT ILLUSTRATES JESUS' BURIAL AND RESURRECTION.
Colossians 2:12-15
IT DEMOSTRATES MY NEW LIFE AS A CHRISTIAN.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Remember baptism does not save you! It is an outward symbol of an inward commitment!
3. The Celebration of the Lord's Supper! 1 Corinthians 11:23-28
Preparations to take the Lord's Supper:
Self-Examination: 1 Cor. 11:27
Confessing My Sin: 1 John 1:9
Recommitment: Romans 12:1
Restoring Relationship: Matthew 5:23-24
Celebrate all that our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us!
