When Paul arrived in Athens, he was grieved over the rank idolatry of the city with statues and temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses. He knew that the Gospel had to be proclaimed. Souls hung in the balance. This is the heart of a man of God and the example we need to follow today.

Paul's preaching in the synagogues and the markets of Athens drew the attention of the city's philosophers and intellectuals who invited him to speak at the Areopagus. When the Gospel is proclaimed, it has the power to win souls for the glory of God (Hebrews 4:12).

Paul's mission to carry the Gospel to the nations continued while he was in Athens. The paradox is that the only way we can get back to Paul's position of not being ashamed of the Gospel is to add to our lives shame for all that is not the Gospel. We need to be embarrassed by all of the false gospels of our day.
