  • Ephesus: Labor Without Love

Contributed by Christopher Benfield on Jan 5, 2020
     | 6,627 views

Jesus commended the church in Ephesus for their commitment in the midst of opposition, but unfortunately, He had to address their lack of passion for Him. They were a busy church, but they had lost their zeal for the Lord.

Ephesus: Labor without Love Revelation 2: 1-7 Today I want to begin a series in which we will examine the letters to seven individual churches that Jesus gave to John in the Revelation. As we move through these letters in the coming weeks, bear in mind, these were written to literal, active ...read more

The second church Jesus instructed John to pen a letter was the church in Smyrna. It was situated within a city of great wealth and affluence, and yet many believers lived in poverty. They were not rich by the world's standards, but they were rich in grace.

Smyrna: Riches within Poverty Revelation 2: 8-11 Today we come to Smyrna, the second church within the series of letters John was instructed to write in the Revelation. It is interesting to note, that of the seven churches, only two received all praise and encouragement from the Lord, with no ...read more

Contributed by Christopher Benfield on Jan 20, 2020
     | 5,371 views

Pergamos was a prominent city, but there was much idolatry and immorality there. Some of the believers had remained faithful, but others had compromised their stand for the Lord. Jesus admonished them to abide faithful.

Pergamos: A Compromising Commitment Revelation 2: 12-17 Pergamos was a beautifully situated city with an air of royalty about it. It sat on top of a huge mountain, arising ever so steeply and majestically out of a beautiful valley. The city's citizens could see the Mediterranean Sea some ...read more

  • Blessing In Church Closure

Contributed by Dr. Ronald Shultz on Jan 20, 2020
     | 3,857 views

Sometimes we should rejoice in the death of a church rather than mourn. After a long painful disease, we express relief when a person passes into Glory. Many churches suffer a slow and painful death. Out of that death life and renewal may come.

Revelation 2:4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.  5  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except ...read more

Contributed by Christopher Benfield on Jan 26, 2020
     | 4,647 views

Although situated within the smallest of the seven cities, the church in Thyatira received the longest letter. They were faithful in their labor, but had compromised with false doctrine. Jesus challenged them regarding the toleration of false teaching.

Thyatira: Corrupted by Compromise Revelation 2: 18-29 Our text deals with the fourth church that Christ addressed in Revelation. While the church in Thyatira was situated within the smallest of the cities the Lord would address, it is interesting that they received the largest letter. The name ...read more

  • Sardis: Socially Active But Spiritually Dead

Contributed by Christopher Benfield on Feb 3, 2020
    based on 2 ratings

Sardis was the fifth church Jesus addressed in the Revelation. While the letter was shorter than the others, this one was the most severe. Apparently, Sardis has assimilated into the culture - with little difference known between the church and the world.

Sardis: Socially Active but Spiritually Dead Revelation 3: 1-6 As we continue to examine the churches to whom John sent letters, we come to the fifth – the church at Sardis. Of the seven, the message to Sardis was the most severe. They were content to rely on prior works and a reputation from the ...read more

Contributed by Grant Adams on Feb 8, 2020
     | 4,134 views

If you sat down and asked what does the church need today, what would be your answer? A lot of times we think of the material things, but God is more interested in the people that make up the church. What are the needs of the people? I hope to answer that question for us all.

The 2nd and 3rd chapters of Revelation, tell us of real churches in real places. These churches also are representative of different ages of church history. The Laodicean church is a description of this church age. The church that is neither cold nor hot. A church that was rich and said it had need ...read more

Like Smyrna, the Lord offered only encouragement for Philadelphia, with no rebuke. They were a people of little strength, and yet they held great potential. Christ promised to open doors no man could close. He reminded them of His preeminence and the security of their future.

Philadelphia – The Church with the Open Door Revelation 3: 7-13 Philadelphia is the sixth church addressed by Jesus. Like Smyrna, Jesus offered no rebuke, only encouragement for their faithfulness and endurance in the midst of opposition. Jesus knew they were a people of “little strength,” and yet ...read more

In our fallen world, there is a dark troubled side yet a bright sunny side - which presents to each of us a choice: succumb to Satan's strategy of despair, or, stay on the winning side with Christ our Lord and overcome the world.
