Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Dec 23, 2009
    based on 8 ratings

Now we have a real problem here. We are told to hunger for Righteousness but this seems to contradict other scriptures that says that this kind of lifestyle is impossible for us to live.

So, do I have to go to the heart of Africa or some other war ravaged, AIDS ridden, refugee overrun, starving hordes kind of country before I can show mercy? I hope not! Is that unmerciful? What does being merciful really mean?

26/12/09 Pastorross | public entry | tags: identifying with others, Mercy, Compassion, Matthew 5 | report Matthew 5 - Oh God, please don’t send me to Africa! Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Dec 27, 2009
    based on 15 ratings

Take a bath! You smell like a hypocrite! Better to live like the unbeliever you are than to act like a Christian on Sundays. Because at least you won’t be deceiving yourself. Take the Purity in heart test from Matthew 5 and examine your motives!

Matthew 5 - Take a bath! You smell like a hypocrite! I don’t know about you but I don’t like the term "pure in heart". It seems like woose talk or I think of someone with an intellectual disability or so totally naïve they don’t see bad things happening all around them. Maybe even children, up to ...read more

  • Matthew 5 - Part 8 - All I Want Is A Little Peace! Series

Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Dec 28, 2009
    based on 14 ratings

Let’s get it right. A peacemaker is the person who has and encourages in others "peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us." (Romans 5:1). Jesus said "the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give" (John 14:27).

Matthew 5 - Part 8 - Kill the Peacemakers - Make war not Love! "BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS - for they shall be called sons of God." You may say "Well that’s nonsense. All you have to do is see all the so-called Christians who have been involved in bloody conflict in history, all done in the Name ...read more

  • Matthew 5 - Part 9 - Ever Been Criticised And Abused For Being A Christian? Series

Contributed by Ross Cochrane on Dec 29, 2009
    based on 12 ratings

Unfortunately for many Christians, compromise is easier than being criticised and no-one would ever know that they are Christians, or if they do know, they are disappointed by the kind of example that is given.

Matthew 5 - Part 8 - Have you ever been criticised and abused for being a Christian? One of my jobs some years ago was working with disabled people. I remember working with a young Christian woman and my job was teaching her how to read. She would readily share her faith to others and I enjoyed ...read more

Contributed by Warner Pidgeon on May 2, 2010
     | 2,656 views

With the UK General Election only 4 days away I am not telling people who to vote for but I want people to vote, and to vote for men and women who display the Beatitudes - the Beautiful Attitudes of Jesus.

What are you looking for in your local Member of Parliament, or your local Town Councillor? Is it the colour of their tie; or is it the colour of their character? In our first Bible reading this morning we heard an extract from a letter written by St. Paul to his apprentice Timothy. He was ...read more

Happiness is a choice, not a consequence. It is centered on God’s rule in our lives and it is connected to what Christ has done for us.

Observations of the kind of values that Jesus outlines in the Beatitudes. (Heavily in debt to Dallas Willard for seminal thoughts!)

Last week, I talked about the need for a transformed heart, made alive by God’s Spirit. If our desire is to please God and enjoy His blessings, our heart must be renewed daily, and we must discipline our hearts so they are undivided! We need not be ‘miserable Christians’ frustrated by the gap ...read more
