As followers of Christ, we are all sent with a purpose by Jesus to share the good news, serve others, and participate in God's mission, remembering that all things are possible with Him by our side.
Hey guys, I'm super pumped to chat with you today about something that's been on my mind. We're going to dive into a cool part of the Bible, from the book of Matthew, where Jesus gives us a pretty clear idea of what we're supposed to do now that we're Christians. You know, like, what's our purpose? What are we supposed to do now that we're saved?
So, let's kick things off with a little object lesson. I want you all to imagine a soccer game. You've got your team, the other team, the ball, and the goals. Now, imagine if you didn't know what the purpose of the game was. You'd just be running around, kicking the ball without any direction. But once you know the purpose - to score goals - everything changes. You have a direction, a mission. That's what we're talking about today - our mission as Christians.
That's what we're talking about today - our mission as Christians.
Let's read Matthew 9:35-10:8. [Read passage]
So, Jesus is telling us here that we're not just here to exist or go through life without a purpose. We're here to share His love, His grace, and His healing with the world. We're like His soccer team, and He's given us the goal - to bring His good news to those who need it.
Now, you might be thinking, "But I'm just a teenager. What can I do?" Well, remember the disciples were just ordinary guys, but Jesus gave them the power to do extraordinary things. And He's given us that same power. We don't have to rely on our own strength or smarts. We just have to trust in Jesus.
I want to share a story about a teenager. He felt like he was too young, too inexperienced to make a difference. But he decided to trust in Jesus and started a Bible study at his school. It started small, but it grew. And he saw his friends come to know Jesus. He was just a teenager, but he was a worker in the harvest field.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 9:37, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." There are so many people out there who need to hear about Jesus. And we're the workers. We're the ones who can share His love and grace with them.
And the cool thing is, we're not alone in this. Jesus is with us every step of the way. He's given us the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us. So, we can step out in faith, knowing that He's got our back.
So, what does this look like in real life? It could be as simple as inviting a friend to youth group or standing up for someone who's being bullied. It could be starting a Bible study at your school or volunteering at a local charity. The possibilities are endless. The important thing is to remember that we're on Jesus' team, and He's given us a goal - to share His love with the world.
Let's pray together. Dear God, thank you for giving us a purpose. Help us to remember that we're on Your team and that You've given us a goal. Give us the courage to step out in faith, knowing that You're with us every step of the way. Help us to be workers in Your harvest field, sharing Your love and grace with those around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
1. How can you live out your purpose in your daily life?
2. What does it mean to you to be a worker in God's harvest field?
3. How can you rely on Jesus' power and not your own in fulfilling your purpose?
4. Who is one person you can share the good news with this week?
5. How can you serve others in your community?
