Seeking Jesus

Scripture: Matthew 2:1 – 23

Title: “SEEKING JESUS”

Introduction: There is a ‘constant thread’ running throughout the Bible of people ‘seeking Jesus’! The Jews had long been anticipating the arrival of the Messiah.

The Messiah (Savior) would be a descendant of David who would reestablish the Davidic throne and usher in the prophesied period of restored greatness in a new kingdom.

WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIM (V.1)

• These Astrologers must have received ‘Divine Insight’ of some kind to cause them to travel months to get to Jesus! (And call Him a King)

• Where is He that is born King of the Jews? (We have seen His Star/ Have come to worship Him) v.2

DIVERSIONS FROM SEEKING JESUS

• (v.3,4) Herod heard about these Magi & the Star & he contacted the Chief Priests & Scribes of the Jews together to ask questions because he was TROUBLED!

• (v.5,6) Herod learned this ‘New Born King’ would become a Governor & a Ruler. (That did it! – I’ve got to stop Him!

• Herod called for the Wise Men to ask about the Star. v.7 --Find Him and let know where He is, I want to Worship Him!

• What IF the Wise Men had NOT Diverted from going to Jesus? --Satan is an EXPERT in diversions away for Christ! --The Wise Men Lost Track of the STAR for a while!

• Think about how Present Day Christianity is Diverted!

WHY SEEK JESUS?

• THREE MAIN REASONS: (1) For what He can DO for You! (2) Jesus is the Only One who can Save Your Soul so You can go to Heaven! (3) To STOP Him!! (Jesus is the GREATEST THREAT to Satan! (Jesus is THE ONLY WAY!)

UNUSED PERFUME (Mark 16:1-6)

• Early Resurrection Morning THREE women came to the Tomb with Expensive Perfumes to Anoint the lifeless Body of Jesus!

• “How will we MOVE the Stone? (v.3)

• An Angel met then with the Message, “He is not here, He is RISEN! (v.6) ----Lk. 24:5 “Why seek ye the living among the dead?”

• The STONE was GONE! ---Why, this is where Jesus USED TO BE!!!

• We’ve SPENT a Lot of MONEY to PRESERVE Jesus the Way we USED to KNOW HIM!!! (His FORMER Appearance!)

WHERE IS JESUS TODAY?

• Rev. 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door (Of the CHURCH), and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

• Rev. 3:21,22 “To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches.”

CONCLUSION: Let us take the Unused Perfumes of the Past & Apply them to the Body (Church) & the Lost!!)
