SEEKING FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD
Text: Matthew 6:25-33
Introduction
1. We live in a world characterized by a lack of certainty, but I know that Jesus Christ is now the king of king and the Lord of lords the master of my destiny and of the the only kingdom that will last forever.
2. I know it’s true because this book says so and this book is the word of God. It speaks truth and is never wrong.
3. How can I possible know so certainly that what it says about Jesus is true?
4. That’s a good question.
Discussion:
I. The more sure word of prophecy.
A. Thousands of years before Jesus was born, God said,
Genesis 3:15 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
B. Two thousand years before Jesus was born God said to Abraham,
Genesis 22:18 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”
C. One thousand years before Christ came God told David
Psalm 89:35-37 35 Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David. 36 His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me. 37 Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
D. Six hundred years before Jesus appeared God said to Daniel
Daniel 7:13-14 13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
E. The day Jesus returned to Heaven he said to his Apostles,
Matthew 28:18 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Acts 1:9-11 9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
F. There is only one possible explanation for this remarkable prophetic precision.
G. This is the word of God and everything is says is true an Jesus is ruling in his kingdom today.
H. What would the world look like today if all of mankind would submit to Christ as king?
Isaiah 2:4 4 He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
I. This is a prophecy of how peoples in His kingdom would behave and is now being fulfilled in the lives of men an women all over the world who are Christians.
J. But know let me be specific. What would your life look like if you were to seek first the kingdom of God?
K. That was Jesus’ command
Matthew 6:33 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
II. What would your life look like tomorrow morning if God were to perform a miracle only while you slept tonight and you woke up tomorrow completely dedicated to seeking first the Kingdom?
A. Exegete Matt 6:19-33 as an example of what our lives would look like if we put Christ first.
III. Consider this question in ever faze of you life. What would your life look like if you were to wake up tomorrow and seek first the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness?
A. How would it effect your study God’s word
2 Timothy 2:15 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Matthew 4:4 4 But he answered, “It is written, “ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
B. How would you prayer life be different?
1 Thessalonians 5:17 17 pray without ceasing,
C. How would it effect your worship of God?
