INTRODUCTION:
In a world filled with uncertainty, insecurity, and fear, the believer has an anchor of peace—the unwavering protection of the Good Shepherd. In John 10:22–30, Jesus made bold declarations about the security and eternal safety of His sheep. He assured us that those who belong to Him are not only known by Him but are eternally held in the hands of the Almighty.
Many are tossed about by fear of failure, fear of the enemy, and anxiety about the future. But Jesus declared that His sheep are kept, protected, and preserved. This passage provides strong assurance that no enemy, no circumstance, no situation, and no power can remove us from the hands of our Shepherd.
This message is not just about divine security; it is about relationship, identity, and divine ownership. If you are a sheep in His fold, you are known, loved, and eternally safe. Let us explore the truths embedded in this text and gain confidence in the keeping power of our Shepherd.
1. THE SHEPHERD KNOWS HIS SHEEP
a) Divine Recognition and Relationship.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them” (John 10:27). This speaks of intimacy and connection.
b) Hearing the Shepherd’s Voice.
The sheep respond to the Shepherd's leading because they know His voice (John 10:27).
c) The Mark of Genuine Discipleship.
Those who follow Him prove they are truly His (John 10:27).
d) The Privilege of Being Known.
To be known by Jesus is the greatest assurance in life (2 Timothy 2:19).
Biblical Example: Samuel was called by name by God as a young boy (1 Samuel 3:1-10).
2. THE SHEPHERD GIVES ETERNAL LIFE
a) Eternal Life Is a Gift.
“I give unto them eternal life…”—not earned, but given freely by grace (John 10:28).
b) A Life that Never Ends.
This life transcends physical death and secures us in Christ eternally (Romans 6:23).
c) Salvation Brings Assurance.
Believers do not live in fear of perishing; we are secure in His life (John 3:16).
d) No Condemnation for the Sheep.
Those who belong to Him walk in grace, not in judgment (Romans 8:1).
Biblical Example: The thief on the cross received eternal life by simply believing (Luke 23:39–43).
3. THE SHEPHERD PROTECTS FROM ALL ENEMIES
a) The Hand of Christ is Our Covering.
“No one shall pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28).
b) The Father's Hand is the Strongest Shield.
“No one is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand” (John 10:29).
c) Double Security—In Jesus and the Father.
The believer is sealed in a divine grip (Ephesians 4:30).
d) The Power of God is Greater Than All.
No enemy, no demon, no trouble can override God’s protection (Isaiah 54:17).
Biblical Example: Daniel was preserved in the lion’s den by the hand of God (Daniel 6:22).
4. THE SHEPHERD IS ONE WITH THE FATHER
a) Unity of Purpose.
“I and my Father are one” (John 10:30) – Christ is not acting alone.
b) Our Salvation is Backed by Divine Authority.
The power keeping you is divine, not human (John 6:39).
c) Jesus is Equal with God.
This claim of oneness affirms His divinity and capacity to save.
d) Faith in Christ is Faith in the Father.
To trust in Jesus is to trust in the eternal God.
Biblical Example: Jesus raised Lazarus by the authority of the Father (John 11:41-44).
CONCLUSION:
In Christ, you are not abandoned or exposed—you are held firmly in His hand. The Shepherd knows you, walks with you, gives you eternal life, and guarantees your security. Let this truth fill you with peace and assurance. No storm can remove you from His grip.
Today, be confident in your walk with Jesus. Let your faith rise above fear. You are known. You are loved. You are secure. You are in the hands of the Good Shepherd, and no power in hell or earth can change that.
