INTRODUCTION: All of us would like to know what the future holds for us. This is evident in the rise of groups like the psychic friends network, and horoscopes. We want the answers to ALL of life questions and we want them now. In
Galatians 6 Paul answer the question “what does the future hold?” for the believer.
Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
I) Paul give us a CHALLANGE.
Do not GROW WEARY IN WELL DOING.
A) Implicit in this statement that doing good will not be easy.
Examples
1) JESUS
2) STEPHEN
3) JOHN THE BAPTIST
4) PAUL
Ephesians 3:13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
II Corinthians 11:24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.
25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,
26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers.
27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.
28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.
Yet despite this Paul’s admonition to believers is
II Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal
II) Paul give us a PROMISE
At the Proper WE WILL REAP A HARVEST.
Again it won’t be easy.
A) Two principals of reaping a harvest
1) The Parable of the sower
a) We must PLANT.
Some seed eaten
Some Seed to shallow
Some seed choked by seeds
Some seed will bear fruit
2) We will REAP WHAT WE SOW.
Galatians 6:8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
III) Paul gives us a WARNING
If you IF YOU DO NOT GIVE UP.
In the Pittsburgh Steelers Locker Room there was a sign over the exit that said
WHAT EVER IT TAKES!
The reward
Romans 2:6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done."
7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.
8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;
10 But glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
11 For God does not show favoritism.
Again the admonition must be sounded. It will not be easy!
CONCLUSION: Are we willing to do whatever it takes to see a harvest in Xenia. Our future is eternal life. Will you help someone else receive that same Future?
