Summary: What do you think of when you think of a hand? When you think about your Father’s hand, think of his provision, his power, his presence, and his protection.

Saved, safe, and secure in God’s hand

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: v28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. v29 My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

What do you think of when you think of a hand? A hand re-presents might, power, strength, embrace, compassion, care, protection, security, safety, provision.

In the Bible the word hand is used in different ways.

1. It refers to a physical body part of a person.

2. It refers to a period of time such as the day of the Lord is at hand.

3. It refers to the hand of the Lord. Isa 59:1 “Behold, the LORD'S hand is not to short, that it cannot save” This is how it is used in John 10.

From John 10 Jesus is teaching us about our Father’s hand.

First, our Father’s hand teaches us about his Provision

V28 Jesus says, “And I give...” God’s hand provides what we need. What does God provide? Jesus says he provides …. Eternal life. What a wonderful provision. The greatest, most wonderful provision ever. This is graciously provided from the very hand of Almighty God.

Second, our Father’s hand teaches us about his Power.

v29 Jesus says, “My Father… is greater than all...” God’s hand is powerful. Who is more powerful than God? NO ONE! As a result, “no man is able to pluck you out of our Father's hand.”

We are safe and secure in our Father’s hands. He is all powerful.

Third, our Father’s hand speaks of his Presence.

If we are in our Father’s hand, he is near to us and we are near to him. Jeremiah 23:23 “Am I a God near at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?” He has also promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Let God be true and anyone who teaches differently a liar.

Four, our Father’s hand teaches us about his Protection V28- Jesus says," I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish” The sheep are protected by the Shepherd. They will never perish. See John 3:16.

The Apostle Peter said your salvation is “reserved in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, it can’t change or decay.” 1 Peter 1:4-5

The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 1: 5 says, “you are the adopted children of God, by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will…” God never disowns his own.

In John 6:39 Jesus says, “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that the Father has given Me I lose none….” To claim that a believer can somehow lose what God has graciously given is to slander the character of the Lord Jesus Christ making Him out to be an impotent shepherd, unable to keep those entrusted to Him by the Father.

When you think about your Father’s hand, think of his provision, his power, his presence, and his protection.

The same hands that created the universe and keeps it perfectly orbiting around the sun keeps you saved, safe and secure in his Son. The result: His sheep “shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.” This is the security the sheep enjoy.

In times like this with prevalent insecurities, this word is so timely. The brevity and clarity is also outstanding. Give a vivid perspective to safety in the hand of God. Just what I needed to preach.
