Summary: In the story of David and Saul, we see how earthly weapons and resources can fail, but the Word and Spirit of the Lord never do. Today, we'll discover how faith in God sustains us in our battles, just as David trusted in God's protection and guidance.

Greetings in the Precious Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

It’s a joy to gather with you today, and as we come together, we find ourselves in a time when people all around the world are speaking about faith in God. Faith is something that resonates deeply within us, and while it can be discussed in many different ways, all who talk about faith ultimately point to one person—Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 12:2 tells us to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” This means that from the beginning to the end, Jesus is the one who holds our faith. Even when we stumble, when we falter, when our faith seems to waver, He remains faithful. 2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” Turn to your neighbor and say, “God is faithful!” What a powerful truth that is!

Now, let’s consider how this faith grows within us. Romans 10:17 teaches us that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, we see examples of men and women who demonstrated great faith. Hebrews 11, known as the Triumph of Faith, highlights heroes like Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, Samson, Samuel, David, and many others who operated through faith.

Today, I want to focus on David. In 1 Samuel 26:12, we see a moment where David, fleeing from King Saul, had the opportunity to take Saul's life. Instead, David chose to take Saul’s spear and the jug of water that was by his head. This spear represented Saul’s protection, and the water represented his sustenance on the battlefield.

But there's something deeper here. The Word of the Lord is like a spear that protects us, and the water that sustains our life is like the Spirit of the Lord. On that day, both were taken away from Saul, but Saul didn’t realize what had happened. He didn’t realize that the Lord had departed from him.

King Saul was a warrior who relied on his spear and water to protect and sustain him. Yet, without the Lord, these physical things were meaningless. David, on the other hand, knew that the battle belonged to the Lord. He didn't rely on his own strength or take matters into his own hands, even when given the chance. Instead, he demonstrated faith in God’s justice and righteousness. 1 Samuel 26:23 says, “The LORD will repay each man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered you into my hand today, but I refused to stretch out my hand against the LORD's anointed.”

We might face situations like Saul’s in our own lives, where it seems like everything we rely on is being taken away. But remember this: the battle is the Lord’s. When we demonstrate faith, God fights our battles for us. Saul’s protection and sustenance were taken from him because the Lord had departed from him. But for David, the Lord was ever-present, guiding and protecting him.

In these last days, as we face spiritual battles against evil, we need to demonstrate the same kind of faith that David had. The Lord is by our side, and He will win the battle for us. 2 Chronicles 20:15 says, “The battle is not yours, but God’s.” And Jeremiah 17:8 gives us this assurance: "He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

The fruit of the Spirit includes faith, and this faith should never cease within us. Faith can win battles. Our faith in God can move mountains, overcome obstacles, and bring victory in our lives.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, let us hold fast to our faith. Let us trust in God’s promises and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. As we do, we will see the Lord fighting our battles, bringing us through every challenge, and leading us into His glorious victory.

Let us keep the faith and put our trust in God until His coming! Amen!
