Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon explores seeking satisfaction in Jesus, finding sustenance in faith, and securing salvation through belief in Christ, as taught in John 6:22-29.
Good morning, beloved family in Christ. It is indeed a joy to gather once again in the house of our Lord to delve into His word and draw from His well of wisdom. It is my prayer that we may all find comfort, strength, and direction in the message God has for us today.
Our focus today is drawn from the book of John, chapter 6, verses 22 to 29. It is a passage that, like a well-trodden path, leads us to the heart of our faith, to the essence of our belief, and to the core of our relationship with Christ. It is a passage that, if we allow it, can transform our understanding of what it means to seek satisfaction in Jesus, to find sustenance in faith, and to be secure in the salvation of Christ.
The Scripture passage reads as follows: "The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, 'Rabbi, when did you get here?' Jesus answered, 'Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.' Then they asked him, 'What must we do to do the works God requires?' Jesus answered, 'The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.'"
As we reflect on this Scripture, let us remember the words of the great preacher Charles Spurgeon, who once said, "Faith goes up the stairs that love has built and looks out the windows which hope has opened." It is this faith, this love, and this hope that we will be considering today.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day, for Your love that never fails, and for Your word that guides us. We ask that You open our hearts and minds to Your word today. May we not just hear it, but may we understand it, embrace it, and live it out in our daily lives. Guide us, Lord, as we seek satisfaction in You, find sustenance in our faith, and secure our salvation in Christ. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
So, dear friends, let us seek satisfaction in Jesus. Let us recognize our need for Him, trust in His promises, surrender to His will, and abide in His love. Let us not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life. Let us not seek the things of this world, but the things of God. Let us not live for ourselves, but for Jesus. For in Him, and in Him alone, we will find true satisfaction.
