This sermon explores the lifelong journey of sanctification, setting ourselves apart for God's service, and the wonders He promises to those committed to this path.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved, and welcome to this beautiful day that the Lord has made. I am thrilled to be here with you and I am excited about what God has in store for us today. Our focus this morning is on a powerful verse from the book of Joshua. Joshua 3:5 says, 'Joshua told the people, 'Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.''

This verse is a call to sanctification, a call to set ourselves apart for God's service. It's a call that echoes through the ages, from the Israelites on the banks of the Jordan to us here today. It's a call that prepares us for the wonders that God has in store for us, just as it prepared the Israelites for the wonders they were about to witness.

Sanctification: The Present Preparation

Sanctification begins the moment we accept Christ into our hearts. It is the act of setting ourselves apart for God, of dedicating ourselves to His service. It is a daily, intentional choice to live in a way that honors Him and reflects His love to the world around us.

In the book of Joshua, we see the Israelites preparing to cross the Jordan into the Promised Land. Before they do, Joshua tells them to consecrate themselves. This is a call to sanctification, a call to set themselves apart for God's service. It is a call that prepares them for the wonders that God has in store for them.

The act of sanctification is not just about personal piety. It is about being part of God's grand plan to bring His kingdom to earth. When we set ourselves apart for God, we are aligning ourselves with His purposes. We are choosing to be part of His work in the world. This is a profound and powerful choice, one that has the potential to transform not just our lives, but the world around us.

Sanctification is also about transformation. As we set ourselves apart for God, we are changed. We are molded into the image of Christ. This transformation is not always easy. It can be painful and challenging. But it is also beautiful and rewarding. As we are transformed, we become more like Christ. We become more loving, more compassionate, more patient, more kind. We become more of who we were created to be.

In the process of sanctification, we also find freedom. When we set ourselves apart for God, we are freed from the power of sin. We are freed from the need to conform to the world's standards. This freedom is not a license to do whatever we want. It is a freedom to live in a way that honors God and reflects His love to the world.

Finally, sanctification prepares us for the wonders that God has in store for us. Just as the Israelites were prepared for the wonders they were about to witness, so too are we prepared for the wonders that God has in store for us. As we set ourselves apart for God, we open ourselves up to the amazing things He wants to do in and through us. We open ourselves up to the miracles, the breakthroughs, the victories that He has planned for us.
