Matthew 5:13-20 Salty Christians or Believers

1. The following is some of the uses I found for Salt:

• Salt is used for money and many people fought for in wars. "worth his salt" because of the value of salt.

• Salt is used to cure and store meats It is used to disinfect wounds

• It is used in pottery It is also used to make food taste better.

• Scriptures speak of salt there is the city of salt according to Joshua, The Chronicler speaks of the valley of salt, Moses refers to the Salt Sea, there were Salt pits, animal sacrifices were seasoned with salt, covenants were ratified by salt, Elisha cast salts into the pool of Jericho to purify it.

2. Jesus points out those who belong to him do a lot of good things just like salt does a lot of good things. Those who have salt or are Salty Salt can flavor food, often times at the table we hear “pass the salt ”

• Let’s pass the salt because “we are the light of the world”

• When we pass the salt we are sharing the salt. The Shepherds shared the salt. At the birth of Jesus 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

• WE pass the salt by sharing the Good Oh Story of Jesus and His Love

• We pass the salt by using the Talents God has given us

• We pass the salt by being the example of God’s love how will the world know you are disciples

3. Salt Purifies food I have heard that Salt keeps infections away and has healing properties.

• We live in a diseased world, we need healing The salty Christians can bring Healing

• Recall the words of the Chronicler a salty Christian can keep the world from infections, decay, and corruption. , 14”if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. “ Salty Christians can purify this land

• Saltiness will keep us healthy lively believers “we will be the city set on a hill” This city can’t be hidden Folks will be asking what’s going on in that church

4. Let’s not hide the salt, One question at our house is I always ask where is the salt?

• Jesus says, “let your light shine you do not put it under a bushel” Don’t hide your salt

• Don’t lose or hide the salt, let us allow our righteousness to exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees

• If we Hide the salt The world may miss out experiencing the Kingdom of God

• If we hide the salt we hide the joys and blessings of being a Christian 2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, The psalmist said, I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

5. Finally, Salty Christian do a lot of good things, salty Christians Purify themselves, and salty Christians don’t hide their salt.

• If you have lost you’re salt there are examples recorded in the bible that tells us we can get it back

• David lost his saltiness Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation ; and uphold me with thy free spirit

• Elijah, he caused the rain to stop for more than three years , was fed by ravens , saw a limitless jar of flour and jug of oil , witnessed a widow’s son resurrected and beat the prophets of Baal by calling down fire from heaven this angered Ahab and Jezebel, she vowed to see him dead, Elijah couldn’t take it. Elijah hightailed it into the wilderness to hide. “Then he heard the still small voice”
