Ruth 1 v 8 - 18

I. RUTH WAS COMMITTED TO THE DIRECTION OF NAOMI.

Ruth 1:16; And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

2 Tim. 1:5. When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. A. A Mother’s Faith is Commendable. 2 Tim. 1:5. When I call to remembrance... B. A Mother’s Faith is Credible. ...the unfeigned (genuine) faith that is in thee. C. A Mother’s Faith is Cross-Generational. ...which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois and thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.

II. RUTH WAS COMMMITTED TO THE DESTINATION OF NAOMI.

Ruth 1:16; And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

2 Tim. 3:14. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. A. Living a Mother’s Faith is a Life-Time Commitment. 2 Tim. 3:14.

A. She Commits To A New Land -V. 16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: She is willing to follow Naomi where ever she goes. She is willing to leave Moab behind forever and to follow Naomi to Israel.

B. She Commits To A New Leadership -V. 16 She is willing to submit to Naomi and to allow Naomi to guide her life. (This is seen in the various times that Naomi gives Ruth advise concerning the manners and customs of Israel.)

C. She Commits To A New Lifestyle -V. 16 She is willing to give up all the old ways of Moab and to conform her life to the way people live in Israel. She is ready to make a dramatic change in her life.

D. She Commits To A New Lineage - V. 16 Ruth is willing to cut all ties with Moab. She wants to be a part of the nation which she has married into. She is ready to claim a new lineage.

E. She Commits To A New Lord - V. 16 This is perhaps the greatest statement Ruth makes. She is willing to give up the gods of Moab and follow the true and living God of Israel. This statement is her declaration of faith in Jehovah God.

F. She Commits With No Limits - V. 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

She tells Naomi that she is willing to commit to this new plan for life for as long as she lives. She even invokes the curse of God upon her life if she lets anything but death come between her and the commitment she has made.

B. Living a Mother’s Faith is a Learned Commitment. ...knowing of whom thou hast learned them.

C. Living a Mother’s Faith is a Life-Saving Commitment. 2 Tim. 3:15: And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

III. RUTH WAS COMMITTED TO THE DEVOTION OF NAOMI.

Ruth 1:16. And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

A Ruth Committed Herself to Naomi’s Family thy people shall be my people

B. Ruth Committed Herself to Naomi’s Faith. "And thy God, my God."

C. Ruth Committed Herself to Naomi’s Future Ruth 1:17. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried:

IV. RUTH WAS COMMITTED UNTIL THE DEATH OF NAOMI.

Ruth 1:17. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

A. Ruth’s Commitment to Naomi was a Perpetual Commitment. "Where thou diest, will I die, And there will I be buried.
